Chrno Crusade
I've mentioned it before that I have a love-hate relationship with GONZO. Chrno Crusade reinforces this current position because it's mostly a bewildering series sprinkled with some brilliant moments. The series starts off on a good footing, meanders a little in the middle and picks up with intense pace towards the end, only to have a slightly anti-climatic ending. Probly the issue is that Chrno Crusade tries to be too many things at once. It has comic elements, touching moments, sibling/romantic love, modest fanservice, GONZO action and even philosophical/religious themes to bind the series. It's a massive package and honestly too tough an undertaking for GONZO. Understandably, Chrno Crusade finishes with some elements (action, humour) better delivered than others and on a somewhat weak ending due to the sheer no. of story elements they try bring to closure. Nevertheless, I deemed this to be one of GONZO's better efforts. The vast scope of the story naturally makes story execution unwieldly and it had been a gallant GONZO attempt. Looks like I would still be sticking with GONZO productions.
