Futakoi 01

After seeing numerous romantic series, I have come to the conclusion that bigamy is the solution for many love dilemmas in the anime world. However, since Futakoi is a hyperbole of all harem series, even bigamous concessions would be unable to address the issues. Legalising polygamy has to be key here.

(Pls read before sending hate mail/defacing my blog: I'm a staunch believer of monogamy as I live in the non-anime world. But I admit I do enjoy selected anime harem series. :P )

Anyway I digress.

Even though Futakoi is not quite double the fun I expected, I found the debut ep to be light and enjoyable. The music is soothing/appropriate and the voice acting, solid (Ok, I'm biased, since Horie Yui is the voice of Kaoruko) While there will be 6 pairs of twins in the series, it is obvious that only 2 would be serious contenders, vying for the lead's heart (ie love pentagon: x 5 the fun, x 5 the angst). However, I must admit some parts were really cliched, for example the overused story element of a returning lead to his childhood hometown (a la Wind ~Breath of heart~ and Kanon) or the frivolous "I'm going to be your bride" yakusoku made when you barely spoke intelligibly (Maburaho). In addition, despite what Futakoi wants us to believe, twins are not/do not,

1) chorus every word they say
2) wear clothes of exact design but different colors
3) always fall in love with the same boy
4) promise to marry the same boy together when young (well maybe bigamy is an adult concept.)
5) seem to share between them, the IQ of an average person (keyword here is "seem")
6) always female

While I doubt very much that there will a pair of twins in Futakoi as outstanding as Kohaku/Hisui (Shingetsutan Tsukihime) or Rikku/Risa (DNAngel), the series does look fun and will do well to supplement my anime diet as the only harem series this Fall.

Futakoi is staying on my to-watch list

(PS: Special thanks to Matthew for bringing to my attention this kawaii series. His thoughts on Futakoi can be found here.)
