Anime Awards: Stripey's Choice 2004

Happy new year to all! Yeah, this should have been a 2004 entry but all the year-end revelry took its toll on me (too many overnight Xbox excursions with friends) and is my 'official' reason for this late entry. :P

The animes mentioned in the following list are series which ended in 2004 and had been seen in all entirety. Pls note that all series mentioned are highly regarded despite the occasional unsavory award title. There will be no negative awards since those series I deemed 'bad' are usually 1) dropped halfway or 2) erased from memory.

Presenting Stripey's anime choice 2004....

Anime Category

Best action: Macross Zero

The thought "I want to be a Veritech pilot when I grow up..." actually crossed my mind while watching this.

Best love love declarations: Kannazuki no Miko

So potent are the love declarations that I actually tried them on my gf.... she laughed... hysterically. Maybe I should be in miko robes for the right effect. :P

Most educational: 2x2=Shinobuden

Did you know that crocodile's lower teeth can be seen when its jaws are close? Yeah I'm sending my children (if any) to Ninja school for a well rounded, ninja education from Onsokumaru sensei.

Most detrimental to moral fibre: Rozen Maiden

The rozen dolls are sooooooo cute that if one is not careful, he might find himself having a penchant for Victorian lolitas. Fortunately for me, Kannazuki's yuri and Onsokumaru's lewdness kept me away from the Dark side.

Most uplifting for bookish geeks like myself: ROD TV

I'm only about 500000 books away from becoming a kami tsugai (paper user). Go go me!

And the grand anime category award for 2004...

The most ANYTHING series for 2004: Fullmetal Alchemist

Words fail me when it comes to the best series of 2004. It is emotional, humourous, action-packed, philosophical and even scientific. Never has an anime series invoke such a wide spectrum of emotions with such intensity. FMA is an anime about our humanity and one of the very rare series that bears a soul to touch mine. Yeah I can't wait for the movie either.

Anime Character Category

Favorite kunoichi: Shinobu (2x2= Shinobuden)

Favorite miko: Himemiya Chikane (Kannazuki no miko)

Favorite ball with wings: Onsokumaru (2x2=Shinobuden)

Favorite Victorian-style lolita doll: Shinku (Rozen Maiden)

Favorite Sister: Rosette Christopher (Chrno Crusade) *no it's not Nanoka from Koi Kaze*

Favorite assasin in cocktail dress: Madlax (Madlax)

Favorite schoolgirls:

Natume Maya (Tenjou Tenge)
Fujieda Honami (Hani Hani ~Operation Sanctuary~)
Yamase Chihaya (Maburaho)

And that's all for the awards. Indeed 2004 was a great anime year for me. Looking forward to another year of anime goodness with everyone in 2005. :)
