Mai HiME 16

Great cosplay fun! I was practically delirious with uncontrollable laughter for most of the karaoke session. Natsuki's out-of-character treat was once again priceless and got me tearing. Mai's get-up also had me howling, "ARREST ME!" :P Despite being natural enemies, it was really nice to see Nao and Natsuki's unintended camaraderie as unwilling participants in Midori's HiME-Sentai initiation. They'll make a great team yet.

While there was much revelry in this ep, it ended on a rather sober note with Nagi's stunning revelation. Personally, I believe the Highlander theme is not a product of Nagi or the First District's nefarious plans but a cruel fate the HiMEs carry, a destiny bestowed upon them by the crimson star. (Of course there's no doubt that Nagi and his lackeys are somehow cashing in on the entire HiME premise.) For HiME-lander (copyrighted Mentar) to take off, the 'most important person' clause will be instrumental in motivating the HiMEs to turn on each other. Seriously, that's not something I'm looking forward to despite the drama/angst potential. Combine this with the fact that SUNRISE has a 'notorious' track record of ruthlessly removing its characters, it certainly does not bode well for the many Mai HiME characters I have grown to love. (I'm still peeved at them for extinguishing Sherrice ~Scryed~)

Well, despite the apprehension, I have great faith that Mai Hime has a good tale to tell and will probably execute some well-placed deaths to push the series into the timeless hall of venerated animes. Worthy sacrifices are necessary to make anime greats, I suppose. Just leave Natsuki and Midori alone.
