Deliver me from the man who never makes a mistake and also from the man who makes the same mistake twice.
Dr William Mayo
Ah but I guess it's ok to make the same mistake twice if you are dealing with twins
. Ep 3 gives us a rundown on Rentarou's involvement with another pair of twins 3 yrs ago (That is just 1 year before he met Souju/Sara to put things in perspective.) Actually I had initially wanted to smack Rentarou for getting himself into the same sticky predication (with Souju/Sara) as he had with Mai/Ai. But, in retrospect, would anyone honestly be able to turn away the fabulously kawaii Souju/Sara if they appeared at your door? (I probably should if I remember the local saying, "Spare the child and be spared the rod."
) This ep probably gives a foretaste of what is to come for Sara/Soujou/Rentaro by drawing many parallels with the Ai/Mai incident. Like an old play with a new cast, we see Soujou/Sara in the exact scenario, spouting Ai/Mai's lines and we are gripped with fear of a repeat tragedy. Souju stands out in this ep as the more intiutive/meticulous of the twins as she exposes Rentarou's cover-up of knowing Ai and emphasizes the differences in coffee (and thus identifying her with Mai). Woman's intiution is much more powerful than petty Jedi mind tricks and Souju has it in abundance. You have been warned, Rentarou.
The ep ends with Rentarou's deep embrace of Souju/Sara as a show of determination not to let history repeat itself. Unfortunately, it has been proven time and again that raw determination alone is often hapless against the titanic tsunami of destiny. I just hope the scriptwright would be merciful to Souju/Sara for the audience's sake.
