DCSS 06

I'm know I'm doing an injustice to DCSS 05 by not blogging. After all it was the most enjoyable Aishia-centric ep by far and an important development for her character. "Junichi" is a HUGE improvement over "goshujin-sama" and I'm already partially to Aishia because of the loli-sweetness that accompanied her "Junichi". I do however have one petty gripe which was that empty-can-hit-wasp-nest scene; a scene that probably caused Sir Issac Newton to turn 30 times in his grave and invoked a public outcry against the animators' physics teachers. As usual, I digress. I'm skipping ep 05 because 06 COMPELS me to blog.

*Spoilers....

I was totally thrown off by Nemu's sudden return. As much as I loved her return and applaud FEEL for making her even more babelicious than in Season 1 (no, I don't have a nurse-con or anything equivalent unless you count meido), it just didn't make good sense for Nemu to come back so early in the story. For this viewer, one of the marks of a good harem series is the ability to generate powerful drama as fuelled by intense rivalry borne of the girls' deep affections vying for the protagonist's love (that is why I enjoyed both DC and Kiminozo immensely). Therein lies the problem with Nemu's premature return: There is no one, not even the perfect Kotori, who can contend seriously with her for Junichi. With poor competition, there can be little hope for the same heart-wrenching (but very excellent) drama as Season 1. For this very reason, I sincerely hope that Nemu doesn't stick around for too long. Don't get me wrong, I love every minute of Nemu's screentime but her early appearance and continual presence would render the rest of the harem girls, especially Kotori, obselete and thus severely upset the series.

However, we do have hope because it has been mentioned that Nemu hasn't graduated from nursing school and seemed only to be present in aid of the school's medical check. Plus I want to believe that Aishia/Kotori will remain the leads of this season (given DCSS's publicity so far). If so, Nemu's brief stint at the school would serve as a powerful plot-tool to further Kotori/Junichi's relationship, now that Kotori realises the cruel reality of her less-than-ideal-place in Junichi's heart. Aishia would be critical in all these since she represents the magical element in the story and can provide the the necessary environment for Kotori/Junichi's relationship to grow. (Yes, we all know that Kotori is too gentle/pure/kind to be aggressively ripping Junichi off Nemu and any development has to be mostly circumstantial rather than Kotori-initiated) Personally I thought the very essence of Sakura (Season 1) is now imbued in the two persons of Kotori (love component- the challenger) and Aishia (magical component- the incomplete mage). Hopefully, Aishia can aid Kotori to challenge Nemu sufficiently in the latter parts of the series as Sakura did in season 1 so as the inject the same intense dramatic angst that made DCS1 one of my favourite harem series.

2 days to more Nemu/Kotori goodness.

  1. Mhhhhhhh…

Call it a hunch, but I think that Kotori _will_ be a real contender for Junichi. At least she will try. You know why I think so? Because episode 6 pictured her clearly upset. But the anime can’t afford to simply link Nemu back up with Junichi without resolving the Kotori issue. In DC season 1 they did the cheap cop-out by picturing Kotori as accepting and still happy. This time she isn’t. So we clearly have some drama in store for us.

My money is on Kotori fighting for Junichi, gentle/pure/kind or not. I’m looking forward to it, in fact.

    That’s my hunch ^_^

  2. Maybe the studio is just tricking us into making us think that the second season was also a harem series where it was actually a serious love drama (Just saying that sends me into a paroxysm of laughter) Who knows? It might actually be possible, and i would applaud them for doing it, but the chances are nil so i’ll have to settle for more Suginami hijinks instead of animator hijinks

  3. Mentar: I’m looking forward to a retaliating Kotori and more drama too. :) It’s just that I can’t picture the very gentle Kotori taking a confontational stance like Sakura (Season 1). Which was why I’m hoping Nemu would leave the series (for a while) and allow Aishia to (literally) work magic to bring Junichi/Kotori to the brink of commitment before the series unleashes Nemu upon them again :P But personally, if Nemu doesn’t leave and Kotori comes out fighting for Junichi, I suspect I’ll be a KKK member before DCSS ends. *begs for NNN brethrens’ mercy*

Whatever path they take, as long as there’s intense Kotori-Junichi-Nemu drama, I’d be a happy camper :)

Conrath: lol! I don’t mind a serious love drama too if it is well-executed although DC may lose some of its flavour. :) As long as they don’t do a Kannazuki no Nemu by dropping mechas on us in ep 7 and having a Nemu/Miharu ending, I’ll swallow anything else that is Nemu-Kotori-centric. :)

  4. Nemu-Miharu ending… mmmmm…. already imagining them in the Agony pose. =)

  5. hey.. i’m really glad that Nemu is back… i just feel that Junichi and Nemu are meant to be together,, even though Kotori is awesome,,, i just find it irritating for her to hang around Junichi too mUch..
    Junichi should be with Nemu~~~

  6. crash and burn: I’m a staunch Nemu/Junichi supporter though my heart has been going out to Kotori since Nemu returned.. but at ep 8 Junichi was such a cad that I have decided that he doesn’t deserve the 2 fanta-bulous girls and Suginami should take over as harem lead instead haha.. :) Still looking forward to more Kotori screentime though :)
