Magikano 01-02

Very sly brother... very sly indeed :)

There is only one other person in the world who knows my terrible weakness and he had to send me this screencap, to tempt me. Tormented nightly in my dreams by the screencap, I finally relented and descended into Magikano, expecting to be consumed by the mindless mediocrity that so plague the harem scene. Imagine my horror when I found myself laughing out loud and thoroughly enjoying ep 1.

Burning with shame, I caught the next ep in a bid to redeem myself by condemning it to anime hell..... I enjoyed the 2nd even more than the 1st and I have since learnt to indulge in the guilty pleasures derived from catching this series.

Magikano is Maburaho meets 2x2 Shinobuden. It has cute magical girls slugging it out for the useless male lead and is chock full of rapid SD gags that hits you like successive whirlwinds. There were some scenes I didn't dare to blink for fear of missing a punchline or a joke since they were raining them on the audience, hurricane-styled.

I really don't expect very much from the series but one thing is clear from ep 1 and 2, I WILL be entertained. And I have my good brother and Ender (with his Feb list) to thank for highlighting this series. Well Brother, here's returning the favour. Hope you join us on the Dark side soon too. :)

    That’s Kurosu Yuri. One of the Magikano witches, episode 2 introduces her. She’s the girl without a trace of a chance who I’m rooting for, because she’s simply waaaay too fun. ^_^

    It’s the same girl from picture 6, by the way, but in her “battle mode” gear. She appeared episodes 3-8 aswell, which is only good for the show!

    I need to hand it to Ender: He was the first one who had the courage to openly out himself, Kabitzin ;) … and all of a sudden, the other weirdos show up too!

    And let’s be honest, this show IS fun! How much did you watch yet?

    Mentar, actually I think Omni was first to blog this series since it started. But then again he covers soooo many series!

    My good brother Stripey, your ‘terrible weakness’ is quite well known. ^_- And thanks for the temptation but I think I can hold out until I return to our glorious people’s democratic island republic in the summer. Borrow from u then. And what’s so Dark Side about Magikano? Obviously you’ve not been keeping up with Moetry, beerman et al. LOL

    If you thought Ep 2 was fun, wait till you see Episode 4, with the timetravel. :D If you want overdosage on ‘Maika glomps onto onii-chan’, that episode is for you.

    Yep, Omni was the first to blog it, I remember discussing our initial impressions of the show with him. However, AFAIK Ender was the first to have the guts to put this show on top of his rankings, and thus provoke the blogworld ;) … that’s what I was referring to.

    Anyway, Magikano is win. Very very crazy stuff, but full of fun and energy.

    It’s fun, doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet doesn’t get too… boring.. with its character depictions and personalities (Yuuna from Maburaho REALLY grated on me after the first half of the series). Plus, every one of them has their distinct personalities, and even Haruo had flashes of ‘coolness’ to him which are painfully missing in his present-day self (rememberig Ep’s 2 and 3′s depictions of him as a younger boy).

    Plus it’s always fun to watch the personalities clash, and to see things go over the top.

    Mentar: Oops sorry let me check my smiley eating comment boxes… :P it’s been acting weird of late… I’m currently at ep 5. We should form a Magikano alliance of sorts. Our charter: to glorify Magikano and encourage secret MK fans to come out of the closet. Of course Ender will be President :P

    Xellos-_^: She was in a pro-wrestling outfit in ep 2 too! Don’t wait already catch Magikano now! :) )

    Kabitzin: I believe it’s spreading faster than the bird flu… I just hope I wouldn’t be put down like the chickens :P

    Zyl: Siscon, slimy eels, lingerie thieves, yuri… the series is evil I tell you and you know you want it… :P

    Haesslich: Woot! Caught ep 3 already… So there IS a sis-con gene after all! Looking forward to ep 7. Thanks for the highlight :)

    Ender: LOL! I’ve always wanted to tell my fiancee… “I’M YOUR BROTHER!” nah just kidding… too much Star Wars is bad for health. :)

    First episode, I was mostly entertained by the two idiot marketeers.
    However the second ep…. I got seriously hooked by the student body president … um… yummmy.
    She’s like some alternate realization of Motoko from Love Hina.

    Gotta say the wild art styles (going from drool-realistic to animerific to hyperdeformation … sometimes in the same scene) is pretty entertaining. Haruo is actually pretty cool (at least he gets all the deflating dose of cynical reality lines).

    crimson: It’s only 13 eps so the end is in sight. I’m not sure where’s Magikano’s headed but everyone’s in it for the ride so far :)
