Magikano 03
I thought it was thoroughly ironical that Ayumi (played by Nogawa Sakura san who also voiceacted my favorite-est imouto in ALL of animesphere, Asakura Nemu) condemns Maika for siscon activities. Kudos to Nogawa san for an excellent portrayal of a semi-evil, half-mad witch in Ayumi without ever lapsing into Nemu or Shiho's voices. (Incidentally I LOVE Ayumi's character and believe she's KEY in making Magikano work.)
Anyhow, Magikano 03 continues the legacy of the cast's crazy capers albeit with a slight siscon flavour. Personally, I see Maika catching up with Nemu in siscon greatness. I mean can ANY brother resist this?! (Sakura -=Fate/Stay night=- can also learn a few things from Maika on fending girls off her precious onii-chan/senpai. But it's not all insane hijinks. There was a Kaede moment. I actually held my breath, recalibrated my pulse for some serious plot to kick in... only to realise the Kaede moment is going to get as many spoofs as Neo dodging bullets in Matrix 1.
Ah well there might be a good reason for Maika's unhealthy devotion to Haruo (hopefully to be fully explained in future). But for now, having a siscon gene is sufficient grounds for her smothering sibling love.

I wonder when anyone will do a spoof of Kaede’s defence force and picture them as actual Ku Klux Klansmen…
> Maika really, really, really loves her big brother.
And rattan really, really, really loves her big brother’s behind too.

I totally agree with you that Ayumi is the key that makes the show work, even if she’s not my favorite character. She forces everyone’s hand concerning Haruo, leading to all the great catfight hijinks. Speaking of which, I think it’s high time *someone* put up a poll for favorite Magikano character!

It’s how Ayumi interacts with everyone else that makes things work – she’s the sand in the gears of the Yoshikawa family which makes things… well, it lets us see more than Maika plotting to keep her brother’s affections forever-and-ever-and-ever. She pisses off Maika, she antagonizes Yuri, and through her we see her younger sister Miteru/Micheru and the super-maid Rika. Her very existence is enough to cause conflict between all the characters, since she keeps Haruo’s attention despite treating him like a slave (this is shown more in Ep 7), and in doing so draws both Maika’s and Yuri’s ire.
And, being honest… Ayumi IS quite cute, and she (consciously or not) hits up three fetishes at once; meido, neko, and magical girl. On top of all this, she dresses up often in cosplay outfits – okay, so she hits four fetishes for most otaku – and she looks quite elegant when she’s not cackling like a madwoman or shamelessly mugging for attention – see Episode 7 when she’s confronting Rika in the hospital, among other examples. As much as I like Yuri for being the cool type, or Maika for her overall cuteness (even if she is a psycho)… Ayumi is THE main character of the series, even more so than Haruo.

ayumi’s evil laughter really makes things seems fun.
maika is so crazy about her bro eating her lunches only that it makes sisbro relations look so much more innocent and lovely.

Ender: Ayumi’s real refreshing..
At the very least, she has not fallen for Haruo for petty or inconceivable reasons.. yet. Ah a poll would be interesting since the preferences seemed pretty varied as of now.
Hasselich: How very delightfully expressed… thanks
You are absolutely right about the 4 fetishes! Normally she’s not the type of girl I would like but she has that tremendous allure of a royal temptress. I couldn’t help but melt then she went “o-shi-ri” in ep 2..
crimson: I only hope Haruo is not her real brother so that she’ll have a real shot at him. Nakahara Mai does a wonderful job as the brother-loving Maika.. I supposed she got related exposure as Tokiha Mai

My favorite is Yuri in kitty cat outfit. She just brings out the beast in me
Maika is also very cute as well. Would love to have a little sister like her ^_^;;;
I am waiting for Ayumi to go “maki maki maki maki maki” :p

Witch Hunter Marin needs some love, too. Though I’m not rooting for her in the romance arena, her (rather misplaced) unwavering faith in St. Haruo always tickles my funny bone. “Pleeeeaaase eat my onigiri!!!”

Marin’s cute, in the ‘sweet and clueless’ fashion (and, to be honest, I’d have to say she’s more ‘kawaii’ than say… Yuri, IMO, although Yuri can be quite stunning when she’s not obsessed with Haruo’s… ah.. “dignity”), although Ayumi wins in my books for the fact she’s all over the map, both emotionally and in terms of expressions. I’ve been going through the manga.. and well, they don’t get SD like they do here, and I think I prefer the anime renditions of Ayumi and Maika just a bit more, although Fuyono, Chiaki, and Rika are pretty much identical to their manga counterparts.
I hate to say this, but none of the girls except Ayumi really can or do look ‘elegant’ in the way that you’d expect someone of her upbringing to look. It’s the same sort of beauty that Audrey Hepburn brought to the screens decades ago, and it’s something that I don’t usually see in anime – it’s either they look cute (like Maika and Marin), dead-sexy (Motoko Kusanagi from GITS), or unearthly (like half the anime that involve elves). Very few of them appear both elegant and attractive, due to the art styles or how the characters tend to act in series… and somehow, at least for me, Ayumi just manages to BE that… very occasionally. It’s always when she’s looking seriously at Haruo, or thinking about Haruo, when neither he or his sisters (or Yuri) are around to see her; she almost looks like a princess, in a way. Something that fits her position as a member of the Mamiya family, and something that Yuri is missing despite coming from a similar position of privilege and upbringing… perhaps because she’s ultimately a tomboy, no matter how she protests she’s a ‘lady’ – read, restrained and conservative.
