Food of the Otaku Generation

I met a traveler from an antique land
Who said: Many sharp and toothy bits of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose smile,
And generous bosom, and hair antenna of shoujo command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read,
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed,
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Mai Tokiha, Otome of the Fire Stirring Ruby:
Look upon my ramen, ye Mighty, and be hungry!"

Like Karmaburn, I had a serious case of ramen craving due to Mai Otome 23.

  1. There is a saying in Korea: There are Five, not four food groups. Vegetables, Grain, Dairy, Meat. and Ramen.

  2. Yum! That looks soooo good. Ramen and pizza are definitely my two favorite comfort foods. :)

  3. I usually get a serious case of harem craving from watching anime… :)

  4. There’s a ramen shop in Mountain View… like $8 for the basic bowl. Since when is ramen a luxury food?

  5. wontaek, kawaii – Ramen 4tw!

Stripey – Another reason for your dark lordess of the ring to ban you from watching evil corrupting anime!

jason – That basic miso ramen, in the photo, from Ryo, Brewer Street, London was GBP 6.50 (USD 11.35) but at least it was pretty decent. Quite a lot of ramen in London is ‘orrible. But if they import their miso and noodles from Japan, homemake their soup base, roast their own char siew etc. I can see why it can cost a lot. Argh, so miss Ken’s ramen stall back home in Sg. And the ramen stalls in the Shin Yokohama ramen museum!
