Girl's High 1-2

I'm categorizing this series as "Girl's High" rather than "High School Girls" or "Joshi Kousei" because the latter set just forcibly reminds me of Kimura's spontaneous and creepily heartfelt answer to Tomo's question of: "Why did you become a teacher?" ?????????????!!! ( 'cuz I like high school girls and stuff!) orz

Ep 1. Eriko and Kouda are idiots. (Mikuru twirly finger gesture) Went to Forbidden Planet to browse the first volume and the focus is rather different but, given the onus on character introduction (vs. the insider-outside contrast), the anime's structure is understandable.

On the subject of double standards with respect to fanservice, there were two things, for me, that counted against the huge number of panty flashes. Firstly, it doesn't seem to be an important element of the humour in the manga. [Edit: It is. I probably glossed over it in the manga like Erica.] Secondly and more importantly, if the studio is going to grace us with ecchi fanservice, do make it beautiful to look at. The very average standard of the animation just doesn't do the subject justice compared to, say, SHUFFLE! which had its fair share of panty flash fanservice which was oh so gorgeously depicted. Even Suzuka, which almost everyone panned for its wretched animation quality, upped the quality for crucial scenes like Honoka's oh so cute outfit or the romantic firefly in bellflower confession scene.

Ep 2. Medical examination madness. Had a good chuckle over Mamiko Noto's repeated moaning of "onee-sama" which is pretty loaded for me since I consider her best role to be Shimako in MariMite. We already know that she can moan a lot from her role as Hecate in Shakugan no Shana.

And it does seem that I tend to like the tomboys in the high school series e.g. Kagura in Azumanga, Tomari in Kashimashi and now Yuuma in this series. Honoka bucks the trend though.

One aspect of how the episodes are structured, with an epilogue clip after the ED and before the next episode preview, also appealed to me. Had a good laugh both times.
