Brighter than dawning blue

From the company that produced the eroge Tsuki ha Higashi ni Hi ha Nishi ni (Hani Hani): Operation Sanctuary comes another impossibly long title (Yoake mae yoru ruri iro na) to get the both PS2 port and anime treatment at the end of this year. (Special thanks to Suguru for the uplifting news and demystifying the exhausting Kanji title with a romanji transliteration.)

More details of the anime adaptation have since been released in a MEGAMI feature (Vol. 73 June 2006) and I was somewhat glad Radix (who animated the less-than-stellar Hani Hani ~Operation Sanctuary) would not be undertaking Yoakena's production. Instead ?? (Onegai Sensei/Twins and Hanaukyo Maid-tai) would be in charge. Some anime art was also released and here's a comparison with the game CG.

This is the first time I am exposed to the game source prior to seeing the animation and I must say I'm a tad disappointed by how the CG is superior to the anime art. Nevertheless, I'm glad that ?? has been faithful to the character designs which is the MAIN strength of Yoakena.

Childhood friend in waitress garb, imouto in seifuku, princess in an exquiste gown. Man.. is there a harem end for this game?! Since the cast has yet to be confirmed, here's my seiyuu wish...

Takamizawa Natsuki - Horie Yui (having played memorable childhood friends such as Ayu ~Kanon and Naru ~Love Hina)
Asagiri Mai - Nakahara Mai (having perfected siscon voice as Iku ~Boku wa imouto ni koi wo suru and Maika ~Magikano)
Feena Fam Earthlight - Kawasumi Ayako (royally and ojou-sama... Saber ~F/SN and Chikane ~Kannazuki no miko?)

(Do pardon my poor scanning for how the anime counterparts turned out. They do look better in the magazine.)

Mia Clementis - Servant Maid Wreathlit Noel - mysterious goth-loliHozomi Sayaka - klutzy onee chan

Here's more characters whose anime art was not released. This probably means they would not soak up as much screentime. What a pity for Meido Mia....

Finally, here's a MEGAMI treat for enduring this image-intensive post and a plea to all Yoakena fans to unite our hearts in prayer for an outstanding anime rendition. Can't wait for the confirmation of the cast.

    Character design looks good whats the plot?

    Another good series that been overlook this season
    Saiunkoku Monogatari – A romance/historical/political anime. If you like 12 Kingdoms you will love this.

    Dammit, i can’t find enough time to watch everything ;_;

    Hani Hani anime had the same VAs from the game, so I bet you they’ll get the original VAs from this game for the anime too. If so, Hitomi Nabatame will voice Feena, which isn’t a bad thing either.

    uh, Xellos-_^. I have been voicing my support for the Saiunkoku Monogatari for a long time, without much success, I admit. One problem is that I was hoping for the anime series to fill out more details to events in the book, like how Ko Shurei showed the real world to the king, but, NHK decided to get to the real important developement as fast as possible. The problem is that not many may understand what has been happening in the first book, which probably will be the first 8 episode of anime, is mere background materials to the real stories that is to follow.

    Stripey, I wonder what will happen if we do a poll on which character was the best for various voice actors like Horie Yui or Kawasumi Ayako.

    Wontaek, the studio probably wants to get to the action asap to hook the viewer in. They probably fill out the details in the later eps once they get to the main focus of the story. I just love how the main female character is smart and level headed. She is the Anti-arika and Miaka girls. Wish more anime had main female characters like her.

    Xellos-_^: From what I gather, the moon princess (Feena) comes to earth for homestay and harem ensues. :P Apparently there’s tension between Moon/Earth but I’m sure if that would have a bearing on the series. Too many series this Spring… 0_o But will pick up SaiMono soonest.. :)

    Koll: Ah Hitomi Nabatame… just found out that from here that she is Nanaka’s (DCII) VA too! Thanks for making the connection :)

    Wontaek: Ah… bumping SaiMono up my to-get-list. :) Thanks for highlighting. Fav seiyuu sounds like a great idea for the next poll.

    Crusader: Now that you mentioned it, anime Feena looks almost sickly… must be not enough sun on the moon.. heh. :P Hopefully the anime itself would have vibrant colors like the MEGAMI poster.

    gawd, the color schemes in anime standards never fails to allure me. Just look at the contrast between the old art and the new art. From old school to modern standards.

    Does anyone knows how the colors in animes always seems to appear so bright?

    err.. Crimson the more vibrant pics above are actually the CG. :P The duller ones are the anime art. Or are you talking about the MEGAMI poster? :)

    Sweet, thanks for posting the CG/artwork comparisons. I’ve been expecting this since Hanihani and PuriHori underwent the game-to-anime conversion. I can really see the Hanaukyo Maid-tai feel from the characters… even more on Feena’s art. Still, comparing these to the anime Hanihani, they certainly look a lot thinner. Not that I have anything against it.

    They do look kinda pale in the anime, but it looks like they just need to put on more blush-ons IMO.

    PS: Great picks for Feena’s and Natsuki’s VAs. ^__^

    I don’t think any anime studio could produce quality to match August’s CG, sadly (well, except maybe Kyoani)–but they look a lot better than the Hanihani anime designs were. I guess they didn’t say anything about when it’ll air yet, or number of/length of episodes? I really hope they’re not half-length episodes like Hanihani, more time to develop the plot/characters would be awesome…

    I think Natsuki (http://www.august-soft.com/yoake/eventcg_05.htm) is a dead ringer for Honami, appearance-wise anyway–at first, I thought she WAS Honami, and had somehow crossed over from Hanihani.

    crimson: sorry don’t know much about color-rendering in anime. :P

    suguru: If I read the article correctly, it’s going to be 12 eps. While the focus is mainly on Feena. I suspect Natsuki will be positioned as the Rival in the series. I LOVED Honami. Pity hanihani didn’t have the time to develop her.

    cyw1988: I’m with suguru on this. :) After all Natsuki’s been designated the ‘childhood fren’ that Honami was. What I loved about the hanihani girls was that despite different personalities, ALL of them were intrinsically thoughtful and kind. My kind of harem girls.

    T_I : LOL! any more ‘delay’ in the revelation of your lie and I would probably have a heap of Feena fanboy corpses on this blog :)

    also that book came from kinokuniya… cost me $25 =.=”" Loved August’s art alot so i went to order it cannot tahan the chioness… anyway i reckon there will be another book since Yoake mae yoru ruri iro na is quite popular in japan…

    There’s a Yoake perfect visual artbook. I actually inquired of Kinokuniya. They could bring it in for about S$70… that’s a figure’s price, so I’m still considering heh. :)

    na i probably wun go for that unless they include a limited edition figure… and the dc figs? nah only got kotori… got her at a discounted price of $5 at the use-to-be clark quey sunday free market… heh….

    Both are all by Clayz(T’system is a sub-company of clayz)… to all honami fanboys(me included), check the figure’s shading and finishing(colouring) before buying them… Clayz are known for their good sculpt but crappy finishing….
