Tomoyo After ~It's a wonderful life

I typically skip the bishoujo-games section of MEGAMI. However in the most recent issue (June 2006 vol. 73) it ran an additional feature "Game bishoujo clinic", showcasing 6 bishoujo games to hit the stores (on various platforms; PSP/PS2/Win) later this year. The art for the first 2 games featured really captivated me.. Produced by KEY, both Planetarian and Tomoyo After ~It's a wonderful life have received PS2 upgrades for release in summer and autumn (to be confirmed) 2006 respectively. I have since read Planetarian and will devote a post to it soon. However for today, I'll be pimping Tomoyo.

Before the mindless fanboy ranting begins, here's the Tomoyo promo clip for your viewing pleasure.

Well, can anyone blame the Japanese for their seifuku fetish? I mean seifuku Tomoyo is SOOO gorgeous! Man, I don't know, I'm now considering asking fiancee-san to marry me in a Tomoyo's seifuku... Tanomu Aniki... when you going Japan again?! And Kanoko the kawaii-ko... *melt*. Plus the song rocks too!!! Arrggghhhhh! Why did I drop Japanese 3 yrs ago?!? Maybe if I had my JLPT 2 by now, I could be playing DCII in 3 days, Yoake moe yori ruri na and Tomoyo After in a matter of months! BAKABAKABAKABAKABAKABAKABAKABAKABAKA!!

Anyhow, this little rant was to really showcase the bishoujos of Tomoyo After, the awesome song, "Light colors" by Lia in the promo and to ease my conscience. It would certainly have been an atrocious crime to humanity if I had continued to selfishly hoard the knowledge of such beauty. I sleep easy tonight.

PS: As I haven't played the game I can't offer much info but here's a very helpful link for those wanting to learn more.

  1. I have to say that company ‘Key’ has struck gold with Lia as their singer for many of their games, most notably ‘Air.’ Either Lia is an excellent composer or she has a very good composer working for her, who knows how to maximize the good quality of her voice as well as keeping the song sufficiently complex to keep people listening. I have a feeling that what we have heard in the 2:50 promo is not the whole song as the developement of the music suggests that there are one or two more musical sections that is not mere repeat that we didn’t get to hear yet. Key companies success formula seems to center on three key things: Emotionally gripping story, innocent beautiful girl, and most importantly, music that captures full attention. I dare say their sale would have dropped by a quarter, if not a half, had they used inferior music, as their music just makes something very commonplace, at least to anyone who read some serious literature pieces they tell you to read in high schools, into something magical and heart ripping.

  2. haha! You are a musical oracle! The full version of Light colors is 6:38 min and despite its length, I love every sec of the song. Interesting you should talk about literature and Key’s productions. I was just thinking of writing in to our Ministry of Education to make Planetarian a mandatory literature read in our secondary schools… Just a reverie. :)

  3. That’s right bitch, it’s wonderful!

    Tomoyo After HAS PORNZ, BABY. PORNZ.
    And play Clannad, j00 f00~

    And what were the rest, may I ask?

  4. Ahh.. the PS2 version is sanitised if you are concerned. Even in the ero PC version, the action is limited to Tomoyo herself. Kanako/Tomo are ‘spared’.

  5. Lia’s songs are long! They always seem to be 6 minutes and more.

    That said, the buildup of this song sounded like the one for Air. :P It wasn’t until the song started proper that I processed it as a different song. Regardless, it is still a good song. :)

  6. Correction: Shinji ORITO’s songs are long – He is the genius who composed the music in Air, Kanon, and Tomoyo. His songs tend to be long because he developes and finishes the main theme in proper way: I would be surprised not to see a name of music graduate school in his resume.

  7. got the game and still have it hehehe… anyway yup i loved every minute of the song too… and the storyline was superb… unlike other bishoujo games though where u pick a girl, in tomoyo after u are stuck with tomoyo only. Who wants the ps2 version anyway??!?! unless, they come up with a tomoyo figure and other limited edition figures that may some how outweigh the contents inside the pc version (evil laugh) just kidding…

  8. can i have the names of some nice songs sang by lia other than “Light Colors”? :P
    I need the names if possible :D

    I’m glad i cant read japanese. Else this holiday I will have endless games to play = endless lecture from parents = probably worse eyesight = probably less robust body conditions

    I believe the above site has enough English to be navigatable. You could also look at this as well.

  10. Needs tentacles

  11. Skane: Glad you like it too. :) I actually like Light colours more than Tori no Uta and as Lia sounds more feminine here.

    wontaek: thanks for directing us to Lia’s site. :)

    cyw1988: Woot! you played the game?! superb story? looks like i have to play Seow Choon a visit for the PS2 version heh. Usually for console ports, there would be some extras like additional characters or scenes (possibly to offset the removal of ero material :P ). Though I’m not sure TA will have such adds.

    Crimson: Otsu! Welcome to your holiday! From Lia, I have only heard her AIR songs. Both Tori no Uta and Aozora leaves deep impressions on me (possibly cos of my love of the series as well.)

    Xellos-_^: LOL!! Yes, always the faithful acolyte of the ‘Dark side’ :P

  12. We got to be true to our nature :D and i am no acolyte. I am a true master of the darkside.

  13. I watched the promo video on YouTube, it looks so pretty. ^w^ _>;

  14. They cut my comment…o_o;
    I followed up by asking if you knew where I could find the song, because I really like it but I can’t find it anywhere. u_u;

  15. xD I’m sorry, apparently I can’t type smiles without messing up the font on this site…

  16. Senbo-sama: Glad you like it too! :) Dropped you a mail already.

    Enjoy! :)

  17. Great song, as expected, by Lia. She is indeed an amazing singer. My introduction to Lia was through the opening song of Air, still one of the best anime songs to date though I like the ending, Farewell Song, a tad bit better :)

    Also I’ve looked for this song everywhere but I can’t seen to find it. Apparently opening for bishoujo games are particularly hard to find (especially full-length version). It’s a shame because some of my favourite Japanese songs happen to be game openings.
