Strawberry Panic 9

We learn that Nagisa is afraid of ghost stories (like Sakura Kinomoto), has a sweet tooth and is mesmerized by Yaya's large breasts. And that Rokujou used to sleep with Shizuma. Goodness, just how big is the latter's harem? I'm not buying the explanation that the crying heard by Yaya and Hikari was caused by a cat but if Rokujou has outgrown crying the corridor at night, then what caused it? It also seems that Nagisa and Tamao have firmly established their friendship with Yaya and Hikari but will their friendship be put to the test by school politics and the Etoile election? *dun dun dun*

Nagisa's little Amaterasu sketch at the start was a tad predictable but still funny. I particularly loved Yaya's foxy expressions as she tried to coax Nagisa out of the bathroom and then her approving look after seeing Nagisa in her swimsuit.

Like Mangaminx, I'm slightly confused by Hikari's cozy behaviour with Yaya - almost like leading her on. But then that would us expecting character and plot consistency from this series. (... Comes back from LOL on the floor) Perhaps it might be underscore how Yaya can come so close but yet be so far once Amane returns to the picture. A setup to generate maximum unrequited lesbian angst?

And while we've had a lot of MariMite references, the above scene immediately flagged up when Himeko asked to spend the night with Chikane in Kannazuki Ep 10.

This episode was all about the Tamao/Nagisa relationship. And I aprrove completely. Also some good Yaya/Hikari.
And I KNEW that Rokujou and Shizuma had a past. And weren’t they so cute when they were younger?

Isn’t the frog on the shirt, same as the frog suit Asahina Mikuru wears in Suzumiya Haruhi ep.9?

I would think it’s just a generic drawing of a frog. Of course, it could be a Keroro Gunsou shirt from Hongkong.

I would too. If I saw the nips and …er..down there.

Skane, I actually prefer the Tamao in manga as we can hear her internal dialogue which is actually more conflicted than the anime lets on. I also liked how Tamao is more confrontational against Shizuma in their Nagisa battle.
Just waiting for the scanlations (by Dynasty) for the first volume to be completed before making a comparison. Not enough material to make a good Yaya analysis right now (though manga version seems more manipulative and aggressive – good job!) but I definitely like Shizuma more in the manga as she’s often bewildered and then intrigued by Nagisa’s unexpected reactions to her. There’s a particularly marvellous scene when she gets jealous of Tamao’s closeness to Nagisa.

The short stories (Kimino Sakurako – is that even a real name!?) are the original deal while the manga (Takumi Namuchi) is an adaptation as is the anime.
Somehow the jealousy scenes work better in the manga because everyone becomes chibi. LOL

Hmm… sounds interesting. ^_-
Question though. I was under the impression that SPanic originated from a collection of short stories from a magazine. Am I mistaken on this? Is this SPanic Manga the original material?
And Shizuma jealous of Tamao in the Manga? I hope it happens in the anime! Shizuma and Tamao so far only hissed at each other once thus far in the anime. It is almost as though the producers are going out of their way to prevent confrontations between Shizuma and Tamao.

Well… I have just finished Chap07 of the Dynasty scans. The following acronym probably describes my reaction to the Manga series best.
ROTFLOL!
Unbelievable! In a good way.
While the anime tries to take itself seriously, the manga has apparently flushed away any pretense of seriousness in favour of sheer wackiness. I thought the ‘Lesbian Meter’ was ridiculous enough in the anime, but they somehow managed to notch it up in the manga.
One thing though, whereas the manga has acknowledged the existence of men, the anime has yet to state whether men exists in their world.
Not liking the manga version of Yaya thus far though. She seems too… beastly.
Oh, and the cameo of the girl with the teddy bear was hilarious. One other difference is that Amane was the one that fell for Hikari first, and the one to chase after Hikari actively. Quite a turnabout from what transpires in the anime. I still prefer the anime version of Hikari&Amane though, since it made Hikari less of a ‘weak’ character, and more stoic against Yaya to boot. Manga Hikari makes me think Yaya lobotomised her to be her slave or something…
Manga Tamao and Shizuma are the win, although I would not say that they are better than their anime counterparts yet. Anime Tamao and Shizuma are more subtle in their thoughts and thinking, and it is up to the audience to figure out their motives and action. I still do not know which one is cuter, Love-Love Umbrella Tamao or Branch-Breaking Tamao? Oh the decisions!
Chiyo is also more likeable in the manga, since her expressions are so MUCH MORE expressive, compared to the mousey, timid, clumsy, doormatty, twin-left-handed/footed, compulsively shy… *breathes* Well, you get my point.
Miyuki is also radically different in the manga… Less frowning, more blushing, more… teasing. Anime Miyuki teasing? Odds of that happening are probably lower than Nagato Yuki laughing. Due to this, I prefer the anime version, since it seperates her from the rest of the giggling pack.
In short, it is as though Manga( and to a (slightly) lesser extent, Anime) Nagisa has been thrown into the Lesbian Den. They SHALL make a lesbian out of her yet.
Yeesh… with all the frenching and fingering going on, it makes you wonder what the NUNS are doing about it. On second thought… maybe we wouldn’t want to know.

Hmm… just watched Ep10. The focus was on Nagisa this time. Will comment more on it later.

Brief comment on Ep11.
Tamao rocks. Period.
