Ten experiences I want as a 17 yr old anime high-schooler

One of my life goals is an impossible dream. I had wished that one day, I would be able to taste the sweet slice of life as a a 17 yr old high schooler in anime Japan. To be surrounded by lovey dovey bishoujos and enjoy life as it was truly meant to be. Sadly, since I've yet to find the youth fountain and my trans-dimensional research to cross into anime realms have stalled (due to funding directed to figure purchases), I've decided to just blog about it.

Here's my list of 10 most wanted experiences from anime school-life.

1) To bunk with fantabulous housemate(s) without parental constraint/presence

She could be your psychotic childhood friend, your half-sister, your lolicious cousin or even a Vesper maid. Whatever it is, education in anime Japan automatically confers you the right to live alone with a stunning bishoujo. I can't wait to exercise my self-restraint.

2) To experience a cultural festival

You can be sure I'll be in the cafe faction and advocating elaborate meido/waitress cosplay to attract customers. Night wargames on campus as part of the democratic process!

3) To enjoy a rooftop kokuhaku

There's no place like the school rooftop for a confession. Preferably at sunset during sakura season.

4) To be awaken by the sweet sound of "nii-san..." seifuku bishoujo of your osananajimi

There is nothing more satisfying than waking up to the sweet croon/angelic countenance of your beautiful escort to school in her full seifuku glory.

5) To be addressed nii-san 'senpai'

Actually I'm living the senpai dream. My other half was my kouhai and she had playfully addressed me senpai for a day until I ask for a 'nii-san' and received the smack-down. No wonder the hierarchial system in Japan works so well. The seniors feel so empowered!

And we take a half-time break with Karin's ?????

6) To eat home-made bento

"Stripey kun... ano... I made more today, if it's alright, would you like to have this bento?" is what I would love to hear. Yes, especially for the typical Singaporean whose heart is at the stomach.

7) To collide with a blue-haired/red-eyed bread munching bishoujo en-route to school

Ah...the eternal wish of many an otaku. Although I might trade this for a headbutt by another taiyaki-thieving bishoujo with red hairband.

8) To bask in yukata goodness at summer festivals

Ah the springtime of youth. 17 yr olds in the yukata... Throw in the mandatory sudden shower at such festivals and you get to enjoy the closing fireworks with a body-hugging yukata of a bishoujo by your side.

9) To partake in onsen/beach excursions

Mandatory outings in any harem series. Trust me when I say my intentions are pure and honorable since I merely want to enjoy a steaming hot onsen with my hormonally charged imagination set aflamed by girlish giggles on the other side of the partition and to bask in the youthful exuberance of 17 yr olds on the beach as they offer the highest praise to The Hands that fashioned their flawless bikini-ed forms.

10) To meet lolicious aliens, moelicious time travelers and bablicious goddesses.

Added bonuses if a) moelicious time traveller could be your great grand niece b) lolicious 16 yr old looking alien is only 3 yrs old for lolicons who wants it legit.

Yes, I better start praying to Haruhi sama.

  1. Were I to somehow become 17 year old again, there is only one real wish forme: To form a group of many males and females and do many, many different things together. Sadly, I have to wrestle with the nightmare of the college enterance exam again, and that is the reason I prefer going back to my 22nd year when I just finished my mandatory military service. Believe me, whether in Japan or Korea, life can be much better and exciting as an undergraduate compared to high school, and girls are much much prettier at this stage. In fact, many college students outgrow anime and games because the life is so fun for them; that is why anime and game targets high schoolers, not college students.

  2. Why are there only stupid JCs in Singapore? JCs are like.. high schools with the second year cut away. The first year is always to get to know people and when you finally make deep friends, exams loom.

Imagine this: School Rumble will NOT happen here.

Anyway, as a 17 year old, we must of course ride giant robots, save the world and use super powers. Angstily of course.

  3. I would rather have a Honey & Clover-esque experience in college, sans the legal loli.

  4. God, you’re making me regret I spent my high school period in an all boys school. My 17th year was marked with me investing all my allowance at the local cybercafes playing RO _|-|0”’.

  5. Louise can help you with the trans-world transport, but portals open in Japan.

I wish i had club activities like Genshiken.
And princesses from the moon will come to visit.

And soon it will be time to get into camp and live with and live as muscle-men a la Inukami.

  6. I wouldn’t want to be on a rooftop eating lunch in Singapore with this fucking weather we have. We need 4 seasons first.
Going to school with your sister in spring or fall = WIN.

Also, the beauty in animes is that they don’t pespire. They only time they do is when they’re in trouble or playing in a rock band.

  7. Ha ha ha ha ha ^_^

stripey, that was sheer genius! Soooooo funny! Kudos and good luck!

(though I’m afraid you’ll need more than that. MUCH more)

  8. Like Wontaek, I would like to superimpose the concept of 17 year old school setting onto the tiertary version too, hahaha. Preparing for ‘A’ levels makes me cough toooo many blood literally and classroom is so regimental that u go straight to DB for being late or absent without MC.
And Xellos would agree that being 17 has too many things that can only be done when accompanied by the reprisal of Law.

  9. If i am seventeen again I think I wil shoot somebody this time around.

Make it 19. First year of college with all the internet strock knowledge.

  10. Ahaha, lovely. If only. Inspires me to make a list for being in a girls position instead. I’ve already fullfilled one of them, which would be “To be carried by the person you like (hime danko!) with them saying something along the lines of ‘Wow, you’re so light’ when 17.” I guess it helps that I am 17 right now…

I wish my school wasn’t so complicated or I would have done at least one year of (HIGH!) school in Japan. But alas, my dream has been shattered. I plan to do a year in college over there, but it’s not High School. So it’s just not as exciting. Then there’s the question if I’d want to go to an all girls school or not… either way would have been better than now.

  11. I believe Stripey can get #6, 8, and 9 with his fiance if he tries hard enough in correct way. Trust me, real life experience of #6, 8, and 9 really beats ones in Anime. I believe you should try #8 not with Japanese Yukata, but any traditional cloth of your fancy, I prefer Korean ( http://www.clickasia.co.kr/digicart/products/shop/hanbok1.htm ) but that is just me and I am sure there are many gorgeous clothes in Southeast Asia, for there always is certain set of clothes that greatly magnifies charms of your lady. I am afraid your lady is too old for most colorful of Korean traditional dress, though, but that dress was meant for girls under age of 12 ( http://www.clickasia.co.kr/digicart/products/shop/hanbok/gh3.gif )

  12. I would nose-bleed to death, so there’s no point in thinking about this any further.

  13. This couldn’t be a better list. I would totally just love to go to a school festival.

  14. Besides all the wonderful thigs that u have said … I think it would be nice to have the sweet bitter experiences of H&C while being able to work in a mystical shop like that of yuko-san

  15. I reckon #4 6 8 and 9 are doable in your current life(not restricted to anime) hehe

    4) Just get your fiance to wake you up in the morning. Although it is gonna be hard to get a “nii-san” or a seifuku but i guess work clothes have the same effect no? hahaha

    6) I am sure your fiance knows how to cook. nuff said :)
    8) Well you can try if u ever go japan for your honeymoon

    9) Possible but risk a jealous looking fiance later… (warning)

  16. So Mr. Stripey has the Lady Nauzron gotten wind of this colliding with blue haired red eyed girl or does this just happen to be her hair and eye color?

2, 3, 6, 8, and 9 are negotiable via begging and kissing the very ground she steps on. 1, 4, and 5 will assure a most miserable fate that lies beyond description. As for seven and ten if God wanted it so he would have miracled it by now, yes? ;)

Ten wishes eh? Well now you’re just being greedy…

Here is my most humble and reasonable list of things if forced to return to that most hated age:

    1) tear gas every single waste of money aka prom

    2) pepper spray every self-styled school prince and just to be fair every princess as well in high school every body is equal, equally worthless

    3) force every two bit tough guy or aspiring bully drag an anchor to give meaning to the fact that such vermin weigh down society I’d always be there to ensure that they are “sufficiently motivated”

    4) have every emo kid turn over rocks to prevent them from getting sunburn and join the hour of power

    5) have a monthly re-enactment of every battle on the eastern front with the princes, princesses, emo kids, and bullies as the penal battalion, I volunteer to be the commissar

    6) abolish that band of brigands that you folks know as the student council

    7) hang said band of brigands upside down
    8) join the SOS-dan

Seriously I could never function in such an environment not even your list could justify going through that again.

  17. >>> 8) join the SOS-dan

I think that essentially is my wish as well, but that would mean investing all of my ‘free time’ into studying unless I wish to face dire consequences.

  18. hmm actually i was just thinking abt it… stripey missed the “i stumbled onto her changing her clothes and get my A** kicked scene and the hazukashi appology later”

  19. 7 is achievable without deliberate planning, for people who goes to Taylor HS in Katy Texas at least. There are some really crazy people there. Well to be honest the girl dyed her hair and wore joke contacts and this happened in the cafeteria instead outside but this just proves that real life can be as strange as anime if not moreso…for some at least…but no where as fun…it’s usually a bad kind of strange. It really hurted too.

Edit: I took the liberty of removing the evil # sign. :P Not sure why it has that font magnification effect. :) – Stripey

  20. Whoah what’s with the font!?!?

  21. evil font……..

One of the interesting emotions that anime evokes is the “nostalgia for things that never were”. I missed so many fscking opportunities in high school that I must have been in a coma and didn’t find out til it was too late. Ah well, I did score a perky cute little sansei with a tsundere streak so I can’t complain too much…. and she’s still around after nearly 30 years… still small and perky and gets carded …. amazing voodoo.

  22. I’d be happy enough to get to redo my real life, nevermind live in some whacked fantasy world where yours truly is main character.

  23. three thumbs up for what cyw1988 just mentioned!

    Zzz>
When I first saw those monstrous fonts, i thought it was some advertisements :P

  24. Thanks all for sharing your thoughts! :) Much as I would love to address every comment here, I think I would just say if I get haruhi-esque powers, I’d create a world for each and everyone here to enjoy (think abenobashi shotengai) according to their wishes/fetishes XD. Yes Crusader, pack your pepper spray when that day comes. :)

For the sweet seventeens reading (yes you Tess. :P ) or even H&C fans currently in university, make that dream list and go live it. Years down the road, make that “10 anime-esque things I did back in school” list to have us all envious. :)

Finally, I simply love vexx’s succinct summary on the real reason I watch anime: ‘anime evokes …

  25. >>My reciprocating tale of involvement with my high school teacher warrants another post. :)

Waaait a minute, this sounds fishy. Hurry up with that post already!

  26. LOL! It’s rather bland actually. Nothing like Onegai sensei. XD

  27. OK, after seeing the episode 26 of Aria the Natural, I change my mind about my anime related wish. I would just love to find a job and live in Neo-Venetia on Planet Aqua. It would be very nice to play in the street with my wife and my son and occasionally frolic around with the neighbors or in the nature. Hearing Athena sing a new song would be very nice as well. I hope the three young ladies, Akari, Aika, and Alice, would form a female trio and sing something very nice as well. Even better would be Chamber choir formed by male and female Aria characters and yes, that is very possible for Undines are supposed to be trained to sing some conzones and barcaroles. This trumps any dreams I had about high school or college.

  28. I really REALLY need to catch Aria. :) Maybe I can have another list of “10 most wanted anime experiences”

  29. IN your dreams, bro, in your dreams. :)

  30. greyscalefuzz: LOL! hey aren’t you living part of that dream now? Of course the one waking you up would be speaking French….. would she go “Fr

  31. Nope… gimme my “nii-san” and “siscon” anytime. I’ve recently concluded I’m more into Asians. :P

Good to see your blog as always.

  32. I definitely want to try out kibasen (the cavalry battle thing) once!
