My favourite lolitas – A 'why I'm not lolicon' post

Compared to Sai-moe (I only grieved at the very end over Fate's loss) or Sai-Gar (ended yet?), my abnormally deep interest in abq's Sai-loli worried me (yes, I made my pilgrimage to loli-land today and voted for Konomi even though she's not truly lolita but 100% lolicious). Has the insidious whisperings of the Dark goth-loli-siscon Overlord finally and completely eroded my resistance to loliconism? Should I turn myself in or emigrate to Japan/Sweden to escape persecution? Would Zyl still honour our childhood yubikiri and allow me to be his beautiful daughter's godfather in future? Amidst the guilt, confusion and questions, there was a momentary flash of lucidity on what needs to be done.
No, this is NOT an anime will/legacy for the tanuki clan. It is simply a self-diagnostic tool, meticulously designed to ascertain if such younger yearnings are tantamount to the fetish-that-must-not-be-named. Just as some SaiGar voters' attempt to assert their manliness only to inadvertently reveal their lack of it through abysmal choices, here's my meagre attempt to be acquitted of the Dark Side.
But first, some criteria to prevent a listing of 200 characters;
i) She must be physically be 13 or below. Late bloomers such as Hagino Kana ~Canvas2 (who is 15) and even Primula ~SHUFFLE! belong on my lolicious list.
ii) In the event that the character is non-human, her earthly vessel needs to be of a form looking lesser or equal to 13 year of age.
Now with that out of the way, here's the proof that I'm not afflicted with the darkest of anime fetishes,
Stripey's favourite anime lolitas (and reasons for my love) - In no order of preference
01) Iokawa Karada (Asatte no Houkou) - purity of soul / imouto
02) Gretel* (Black Lagoon 2) - tragic goth-loli
03) Eve (Black Cat) - semi-tragic goth-loli
04) Kinomoto Sakura (Cardcaptor Sakura) - girlish effervescence / purity of soul
05) Daidouji Tomoyo (Cardcaptor Sakura) - admirable love (shoujo-ai type)
06) Hikaru (Figure 17) - admirable love (friend-type)
07)Anju Maaka (Karin) - admirable love (sibling-type)
08) Yagami Hayate (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha As) purity of soul / sickly bishoujo moe
09) Fate Testarossa (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha As) purity of soul / admirable love (shoujo-ai type)
10) Kazahana Mashiro (Mai HiME) - tragic heroine / sickly bishoujo and miko moe
11)Zefiris (Scrapped Princess) - admirable love (dead/reincarnated master-type)
12) Kanami Yuta (Scryed) - purity of soul / girlish effervescence
13) Aruruu (Utawarerumono) - admirable love (daddy-type)
14) Kyon's sister (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu) - girlish effevescence / imouto
15) Minashiro Tsubaki (Soukyuu no Fafner) - Mahoro syndrome
16) Kuki-sama* (Raimuiro Senkitan) - woman-trapped-in-girl charm
17) Ninamori Eri (FLCL) - X-factor
*Some sexualisation of character
I believe the list clearly shows that my love for these younger characters stem not from their sexploitable age but beautiful souls/hearts. Of course imouto/gothloli and some other moelicious elements do exert limited influences on my choices but still, I love these shoujos for reasons largely independent of their ages. Although having such tender years do amplify their charms since most on the list exhibit emotional maturities or sensibilities far greater than many adults can accumulate in a lifetime.
Now, onward to voting for Shana without fear or guilt of being engulfed by the Dark Side.

But kids are in general, innocent. So liking them for innocence is like… liking McDonalds for saturated fats.

The Strategic omission of Iroha is most damaging to your cause not even an attempt at justification. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to create a post about paragons of shoujo virtues regardless of age rather than targeting an age bracket. Surely if the if over 13 group out numbered the younger group you could have made a case. Now I just worry about their well being…
Let me guess this yubikiri you speak of, I assume you sealed it with a pinky swear in some sand box that still persists? No doubt there was a piggy back ride to go along with that episode, ne Stripey-chan?
I admit in seven years of babysitting and growing up with shoujo anime little girls are special its just that once the teengae years come well they start getting on my nerves, at least my cousins do.

Sure they have great personal traits, but isn’t the fact that they are loli that illuminates those traits?
BL: Stripey, you are a lolicon. Join with me, and together, we shall rule over all the lolis together!
Stripey: NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
January 10th, 2007 - 17:47
Stripey, you must embrace the dark flames wholeheartedly, then from there, you might be able to appreciate the brighter sun (and thus return to us, lol). If you keep stopping yourself midway, you’ll always have that chance to be consumed. Therefore, embrace the dark flames rather than wait for it to consume you.
The above is based on the assumption that the transition is reversible, i.e., its more of a mental state rather than physical activities (like humping around casually then catching all the fleas).
Anyway, from the list above, Zefiris FTW!

No Hoshino Ruri? The canonical loli? Sigh…
January 10th, 2007 - 17:58
“purity of soul”? wtf. that’s an odd phrase. i’ll assume it’s your code for “hymen intact”.
January 10th, 2007 - 19:00
I agree with Steve.
Where is Ruri on that list.
*claps onto stripey’s arm and pulls him under.
Joins us. Join the darkside. resistance is futile. you will be one of us.

tj han: heh, i’ve yet to find anime-type angelic innocence in the RL children I teach XD
Crusader: Ah, Iroha belongs to the lolicious group, being 15 herself. I actually have my lolicious list drawn up and my significant half tops it XD (Beating the likes of Iroha, Primula and Louise so you can imagine her power
) As for that childhood episode with Zyl-kun, no piggybacks involved. Just taiyaki…. LOL!
Zyl: usotsuki… (nayuki sulk) XD

Is that manga Mashiro or anime Mashiro? =D
You know, just cause you put Gretel on the list.
January 11th, 2007 - 12:25
Shana! Red-eyed Shana! Tsundere with a magical sword!
January 12th, 2007 - 00:08
Kabitzin: LOL! surely the anime all-female Mashiro! XD And no matter what everyone/DNA tests/BL mangaka say, Gretel is a girl to me.
Steven Den Beste: Heh, I’m a Yoshida Kazumi supporter. Kawasumi Ayako FTW!

01) Iokawa Karada (Asatte no Houkou)
Good grief, no. As I said on AnimeSuki before, she makes me want to yell at her. No love from me for Karada.
02) Gretel (Black Lagoon 2)
Adorably cute in the way she goes about killing people. Bonus points for her heart-rending end, but character love? Erm… not really. Roberta rocks my socks off more.
03) Eve (Black Cat)
Ignoring the last few episodes, Eve was indeed lovable, and the relationship between her and her eventual foster father was sweet.
04) Kinomoto Sakura (Cardcaptor Sakura)
Sakura who? Sorry, too blinded by Kotori.
05) Daidouji Tomoyo (Cardcaptor Sakura)
Er… no.
06) Hikaru (Figure 17)
Very lovable, which makes her demise all the more wretched for the viewer. *sniff* I wrote quite a bit on Figure17 at ‘HopStepJump!’ You can read up on it at that blog.
07)Anju Maaka (Karin)
Love for Anju, yay! J.C. Staff should really stick to drama and avoid comedies. Their track record with dramas is amazing. Easily on par with KyoAni, if they choose to focus on it, instead of wandering all over.
08) Yagami Hayate (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha As)
Hayate’s awesome, but Vita’s more awesome. Hayate had some psycho-moe, but Vita has much more.
09) Fate Testarossa (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha As)
Fate’s cool, but… I find Bardiche infinitely more cool. Gawds, I would probably faint from the pure AWESOME, if Vita got to wield Bardiche.
10) Kazahana Mashiro (Mai HiME)
Never watched before. No comment.
11)Zefiris (Scrapped Princess)
Definitely lovable, what with her tragic story. Indescribably adorable in the epilogue where she scampers around with a back-basket.
12) Kanami Yuta (Scryed)
Never watched before. No comment.
13) Aruruu (Utawarerumono)
Aruruu has more balls than some of the men in this show… Huzzah for Aruruu!
14) Kyon

Aururu is gonna win the belt. Enuff said. If she doesnt wins, that means I lose my bet and suffer the plight of being molested by a hundred “50 degree celsius worth of” chicks.

Hmmm, I guess words can evolve in slang … but historically (and medically) “lolita” referred to sexual interest in that age tween puberty and age of consent (usually 12-15 and ranging from waifish to “skinny but racked” to Mikuru-chan:SHnY) whereas younger than that usually meant prepubescent and therefore “pedo” if one was *sexually* interested in such. Sexual interest in the “lolita” is considered exotic or unusual but is jurisdicationally variant as to legality. Sexual interest in the prepubescent is illegal and medically uncool most anywhere. Finding animated drawings sexy is almost as old as the cave drawing but fairly harmless.
Where this goes off track is that adults can find lolitas or children *fascinating* *cute* *want to hug and protect them* — while not being sexually attracted to them (or perhaps in that vague … “when you’re older, I’m courting you”). I just think labeling someone lolicon (or “pedo”) when they fall into this category says more about the secret thoughts of the accuser than about the target
I guess if “lolicon” were being accurately used, I’d have no issues (heck, 14 was marrying time til about 50 years ago…). I just think it conjures too many different definitions to even mean much.
January 12th, 2007 - 17:23
Just curious, Mr. Stripey, have you read the novel?
January 12th, 2007 - 17:36
If you mean the novel Lolita and you actually meant me rather than Stripey.. yes. Its a fairly downer piece of work about a set of relationships around a pubescent (as in sexually capable) 12/13 year old. My first encounter with it was with Stanley Kubrick’s 1960s film adaptation and then I read the book later. I wouldn’t call it a repeatable read

January 13th, 2007 - 21:04
Xellos: sadly, I dont think so (else my friend would have directed me to it), I dont think any taiwan company (or fans) translated it yet.
But, at least the demo version suggests that most selections have some chinese characters that kinda suggests what the selections do
I guess I’ll take this chance to trans the basic actions:
left 3 buttons are in the order of “movement”, “retreat” and “priority”. (followed that u see the name, LV, HP, attack, defense).
action1: “movement”,
red = guard dragon’s room,
yellow = attack (aka station in the first 3 rooms starting from nearest to entrance)
green = guard (aka station near the last 3 rooms starting nearest to the dragon’s room)
orange = move back (prolly station around the middle but slowly moves towards the dragon’s room)
blue = patrol (move between rooms)
purple = reinforcement (reinforcement other rooms where possible)
grey = do nothing
action 2: “retreat”,
yellow = alert (flee when hp left 9/10…i think?)
blue = normal (flee when hp left 1/2)
green = fight hard (flee when hp left 1/10)
red = fight to death (till death do us part)
Under “priority”,
red = group 1 (if i didnt get the idea wrong, priority is like who gets placed first based on the first action which is “movement”)
blue = group 2
yellow = group 3
green = group 4
grey = ungrouped

I can’t believe that shana and yoshida kazumi are not in there!! wadever their ages are they still look loli… unless loli=flat chest which is true for most of the above….hmmm maybe all… =X and what?! none of the sisters from sister princess made it into the list?! I demand that aria from Sister princess be included!!! =/

Miko Mashiro FTW!

Ah I see, I suppose I can forgive you then, Mr. Stripey. The movie adaptations does not do justice to the novel.

STRIPEY, I NEED YOUR HELP…..
someone just told me that manabi is not a loli! I need you to define the true meaning of a loli desu~
Weeeeeee~ and u are a fricking lolicon.

impz: LOL! I’m unworthy! The one you seek is the King of Lolicon who is reignth over at lolitron.
Nevertheless, I’ll give my 2 cents… in the form of a post. XD otanoshimini!

I’m disinclined to believe you love these chars more for their character than looks. I mean some chars exhibit qualities of a young girl despite being more mature phsyically, so if said qualities really were what you admired in a char, age would be largely irrelevant to their amiability for you. That said, justifications of your love for these chars being mostly independent of their age is fundamentally wrong. YOU LIKE THEM YOUNG. Any other attributes they exhibit is merely besides the point, or extra in nature, since you probably liked them from the get go, so those qualities didn’t play in making come to like them.
