The embodiment of moe ~ Misaka Shiori
For a self-professed Kanon fanboy who flies an Ayu/Nayuki banner, I don't talk about the series much. There are 2 reasons for my silence on Kanon. First, being my fear of spoiling amidst my rabid ravings of the series but more importantly, I simply lack the literary means to convey the beauty of KyoAni's Kanon. So far KyoAni has exceeded all my expectations with the remake. It's not perfect surely, after all I did find the resolution of Makoto's arc a tad diluted and Mai's backstory too concentrated at the end of her arc. Nevertheless, these are petty nitpickings in an otherwise fabulous production.
Strangely, for a supposed Ayu fan, I've been taking more moe damage from Nayuki, probably because compared to Ayu's familiar antics, sleepyhead Nayuki with her moelicious mumblings is a lot more refreshing. That was until Shiori revved up her charms. Here's a recounting of the moe damage Shiori dealt over 18 eps of Kanon.

I have never seen a more rapturous moment for snow clumps. Now they can go to the Great Snow Beyond in peace knowing they were once part of the glorious beauty of moe-goddess, Misaka Shiori.

I would gladly give a limb, just to hear Shiori chan address me as 'onii-chan'... Zyl's limb that is.

If you think Shiori's not hitting anything you are wrong. With every moelicious miss, she's dealing a precise blow to my moe-center (think chakra source). Shiori's THACO - Gophers 0%, Stripey 100%

Don't be fooled by that effortless Shiori swing. A level 9 area effect spell, it doesn't matter if the snow projectile hits or not. Mere visuals of the entrancing Shiori dance of snowball-dodge is enough to pertify.

The female body is wonderfully and fearfully made. With the tilt of the head, the crook of the elbow or the slight bent of the knee, one can raise moe levels beyond acceptable human intake. My deep respect for Yuichii who wasn't reduced to a worthless grovelling heap.

Mou... dame.... I need full restore.... NOW!

Shiori's tale should have been the weakest arc of the Kanon girls. It's predictable and bears no relation with Yuichii's past. Instead, of the 3 completed arcs, I enjoyed Shiori's the most and would easily confessed to her being my top Kanon girl (currently), abandoning old loves like Ayu/Makoto. Well, possibly the romantic element in Shiori's arc heightened the magic. KyoAni deserves all the credit for infusing much Shiori charm and emphasizing on the ambience to make up for the thinner plot. Still I wouldn't scratch Ayu and especially Nayuki out of the race. If KyoAni can work Shiori up Stripey's chart in 3 eps, I fear the power they wield over me in the remaining 6.
Nine-tailed Tanuki or not, I need to stock up on those resurrection scrolls for the Ayu/Nayuki finale. Now if you'd excuse me, I have a revival ritual to return to.

I never cared much for Shiori in Toei’s Kanon, but… Actually I never cared much about any of the girls in that Toei’s version of Kanon, except for Ayu after her ending, though Shiori was definitely the lowest on my rankings.
Then came KyoAni’s Kanon, where I was interested from the get go. KyoAni’s magic touch indeed. ^^
NOTE: I am not a big Ayu fan, despite saying what I just said.

Mai will always remain my No.1 Kanon-girl. ^^;
Whee!

Must be the constant smile. Thus the moe factor.
I agree with Skane though, Mai remains the most gorgeous to me

ShadowrazoR: I was surprised how KyoAni turned my own rankings on me XD Ayu is only my 3rd fav in this remake despite being a clear winner in the Toei version. Although I have the feeling Nayuki’s going to come up tops for me by the end of the series.
Skane: Bunnied-eared Mai will always have a special place in my heart
Tedfox: Ah indeed! Shiori’s smile… Despite the fact she actually has very little to smile about. Sigh.. what a lovely girl…

Mai is still my current favorite…but this is my first time watching Kanon, so that could change. Hilarious image captions!

…my race is Cynitard…and my job class is Party Pooper…
…this means I have incredible resistance to all sources of moe damage, active and passive, except for the usagi-mini, wife material, and sleepy zombie varieties…and that is only so that I have more balanced stats and not break the game…

KyoAni has injected every single character with moe steroids (which isn’t enough to save Makoto anyway). This is so dangerous it should be illegal!

Oi! Other people’s limbs happy happy just donate like that one har?! Instead, what I suggest is that you can try to resurrect Shiori even though it is forbidden, lose an arm and nearly your brother too in the process… oh wait, I’d still end up in an armoured [mobile] suit… Full Metal Sisconist!

Nonononono. if you want to do pairings, wave Mai/Sayuri.

Ashram: Thanks! I think Ayu’s arc ends rather intensely for the first time watcher. You might find yourself a taiyaki fan when the series ends
Remember to stay spoiler free!

I give Kyoani a lot of credit for upping Shiori’s moe factor 100x from the Toei version, but she still can’t displace Makoto in my #1 spot–I’m a sucker for tsunderes though, and Shiori’s anything but. My only complaint with the Shiori arc was the resolution to Shiori-Kaori conflict was really anticlimatic. It seemed a little strange to me that Shiori’s been longing to spend time with her sister for so long, but when Kaori finally acknowledges her, Shiori effectively just says “bye-bye nee-chan, I’m going off with Yuichi to play hide the salami now.” She’s been hanging out with Yuichi for days, why not spend some of her remaining time with Kaori like she’d dreamed of?
By now, Yuichi’s got to be thinking he’s cursed, since with three arcs down, the results are: dead (Makoto), hospitalized (Mai and Sayuri), and final stage of terminal illness that has no symptoms whatsoever (Shiori). So far, his mental state doesn’t seem to have changed at all, but the angst has to start kicking in soon…

I cannot believe that me, the casual Shiori hater, is now melted by this very girl by the end of episode 18. There is no choice sadly, since they make her so moelicious.
Oh well, *raises white flag*

Someone needs a healer in his party.
I hope your body can take it.

suguru: I think what Shiori really wants with Kaori is not just a day of catching up but rather living that ‘normal’ life, communting to school together, eating lunch together, gossiping about the cute guys etc.
I thought Kaori did a very sweet thing by shooing everyone else away for Shiori to be with her love interest on that special occasion. As for Yuichii… we need to remember his propensity for denial… XD
impz: Keep your white flag and hoist the Shiori banner instead!
You are a new man…. I mean trap with your embrace of our moe-hime. Welcome to SSS!
*does Elvis impersonation dance with Guncannon XD
DrmChsr0: I’m still not sure how to ‘use’ yanderes. They have to be sick and dere dere?
crimson: hehe I wouldn’t spoil anything for you
Shiori kiss is like the unblockable in Soul Caliber, except there’s no charging time XD
retsgip: With Shiori kisu, I’m thinking I need rezzers more than healers. But not Dokuro-chan pls

I’ve been under Shiori’s thrall pretty much from square one. Among the various scenes stitched together to form the promo episode, none have lingered in my head as enduringly as the sight of that quiet-looking, shawl-clad, entrancingly vunerable maiden playfully teasing our hero with a finger raised to her lips and the words “Sore wa himitsu desu” hanging in the snow-filled air.
Yeah, I can’t help but wax poetic around Shiori. I tend to gravitate towards quiet types – and when that quiet type also happens to be a sad girl in snow, so much the better.
Taiyaki time can wait. For now, I have an appointment with a girl in the school courtyard.

That “vulnerable” in the first part is missing an L. My bad.
February 7th, 2007 - 10:47
wontaek: Ah yes, I did.
So innocent yet lethal.. just like her moe powress…
Diego: I remember that promo scene. HUGE moe damage it caused, so much so it lowered my constitution XD I forgot to mention that I thought Shiori’s voice was one big reason of her moe-ness. She really did come across as sickly and frail yet sooooo sweet… Kudos to Akemi Satou for doing such a lovely job.

Like some others, Mai remains the extraspecial… but the KyoAni presentation has made it clear that my life would be hell without a polygamous solution with these young ladies — the Shiori arc was total win.
I’m beginning to think we’re going to get a rather unique climax for Kanon in the Ayu/Nayuki/++? events and closure. The preview for ep 18 felt quite different (silly jokes aside).

I loved Mai… oh, now I love Shiori… OMG, all that moe just floored me in the last 3-4 epis (Gawd I love that mole whacking scene)
