Figure impulse ~ MaxFac's 1/8 Suzumiya Haruhi

I'm generally against impulse shopping. A personal rule of mine is never to buy an item on the same day I first set my eyes upon it. This applies to my figure purchases. My figures are mostly pre-ordered and for the few that I 'bought off the shelf', there was at least a day of consideration or consultation with my panel of figure reviewers before I lay the moolah for them. But today, I broke this rule.

Yes, I'm the proud owner MaxFactory's 1/8 Suzumiya Haruhi. Frankly, I didn't quite acquire her with the purest intent. Although tempted by her fantastic sculpt, there was this small voice at the back of my head instigating me to make a quick buck with her. Fortunately for Haruhi, the honorable side of this tanuki won out. Alone with her in my room, I yielded to her beauty, ripped off her package and claimed for her my own. Indeed, there are few things more electrifying than that exhilaration of opening up a brand new figure for figure collectors.

And so Haruhi now stands proud amongst her seifuku sisters in my collection. The observant would have noticed that my Asakura Yume is no longer in the picture. Sadly, after a painful struggle, I have deemed that she is not quite suitable for my figure-harem. Am seeking to transfer her to a more loving master who would appreciate her in ways I'm incapable of.

I thought I'd take this chance to introduce the other 2007 figure I've acquired earlier this year, Princess Yumil. She comes with removable clothing which I have absolutely no interest in and a posable axe which really adds dimensions to the figure. I also love the detailing of her princess curls. My only concern is that she's made of a softer material than the regular PVC most figures are fabricated from. Keeping my fingers crossed on leaning issues.

I have the tendency to classify figures by themes for display purposes. My newest category is "Babes with blades" and Yumil fits there nicely with Dark Saber and Fate. The lovely Saika should also be here in Mar/Apr to boost their strength.

Given her sweet-lolita outfit, she's quite also at home with the rest of the sweet/goth-loli and waitress/meido nee-samas. Frilly dresses FTW!

The mandatory figure harem picture. Can't wait for witch-hat Yuki to join her SOS-dan leader in a blissful life as Stripey's figure haremette. Looking forward to her June release.

    This reminds me how I bought my Browning BLR 5.56, for $650 (!). Totally was an impulse purchase. I learned pretty quickly that it can’t outshoot even an SKS, but I still love it to death. There’s a pic here:

    Beautiful gun, isn’t it? I dunno if you play with figurines, but I take the Browning to shoot sometimes, although not often. One time I put it down on a bare range table and scratched the receiver a bit on the ejection side. Hearbreaking!

    Do you actually display them like that? I tend to scatter mine around through my office so that anyone casting their eyes about keeps getting new little surprises :)

    The only figure I actually keep near my computer is Etona from Disgaea… I didn’t think much of the series but she’s such a cute little daemon she sits right on top of my game machine.

    I use a number of those little mini-shelves and hang them near posters and pictures I have on the wall — each shelf tends to cover a series or a theme.

    Oh, nice Haruhi figurine! I have had my eyes on a Haruhi, but not that perticular model.

    By the way, what manufacturer has done that Feena figurine that you have? I’m wondering if I should get that just to compensate for the lack of quality the anime had vs. the game and that figurine ^_^

    Ah well, since it’s O-Haruhi-sama, you are forgiven for short-circuiting the procurement approvals process. Looks great though! Though I have to say, I always thought that you’d part with the moolah for a Mikuru or Kyon’s Imouto figurine before Yuki or Haruhi.

    vexx: Ah, thematic/by-series shelves are a great idea! Will try to fix something up in one of my rooms. :) Currently I alternate between displaying the figures in my cabinet and on the shelves. I try to keep all of them together though, gives me that harem feel XD

    Flaskis: Seeing a fellow figure enthusiast acquire Alter Fate never, never fails to warm my heart. :) CONGRATS! She’s lovely isn’t she? :) Seifuku Feena is from Kotobukiya. One of their better sculpts and surely a healing salve for the pain the anime inflicted XD

    Impz: I’m… a poor man. Like many young Singaporeans, I’m in debt for the next 30 years.. on paper at least XD I don’t do figure reviews because I’m a poor conduit of their beauty (aka non-existent photography skills.) Leaving it in the good hands of tj han, Adun and super rats. :)

    Zyl: I blame you for making me see your way XD That said, I’d very much like a knife-wielding Asakura Ryouko too. :)

    Xellos-_^: Yumil? Again a fantastic choice. :) Although I fear to imagine what you’d do with her removable clothing XD

    deftoned: All the best for your Yuki pre-order! Alter Fate needs appromixately 35cm width, 25cm height and 40cm depth. I’m considering constructing a glass casing to showcase her in a prominent place in the house. :)

    Stripey, that’s quite a lot of space for Fate! I took out my tape measure and realized I have no where to place her. O_O The only free stops are all right next to windows or right on my desk (but that would take up a chunk of space). Fate might have to stay in her box until I get some better shelving options. Thanks for the dimensions. I totally appreciate it!

    I got my preorder in with HLJ this morning, and when I went back there just now, orders were closed. :P Call it lucky that I just happened to be at my computer when they updated their site. Need to start saving my pennies now…

    suguru: Thanks again! I thank Haruhi herself for that impulse. XD As for the harem, my challenge now is to construct a fitting place for them to pour forth their beauty. It may come up to about half a year worth of figures (which is 6 for me… theoretically at least :P ). Sigh, the cost of appreciating beauty XD

    deftoned: Grats for your Yuki preorder! Given up Haruhi turned out, I’m SOOO looking forward Yuki in June. And indeed, Fate is humongous by 1/8 standard. I’m contemplating to display her on her own with a specially built glass casing. But I would only confirm it when I get my Fate re-release in April. :P

    Oh they exist, bro. :) Atelier Sai has 1/6 combat waitress Mikuru while MaxFac have 1/8 ones. But despite my inclinations towardes waitress uniforms and Mikuru herself, I didn’t find the figures appealing somehow. :)

    You can find haruhi’s god knows mtv there with fretting. I assumed the guitarist is using standard tuning.

    Other than that, relish in good o game themes like FF7 battle and romancing saga 3 battle (awesome game with no lvls only stats up and random chance to learn skills).

    i just notice that you also have Saika form Pastel Chime on pre-order. Good choice. I was determine to make her might as soon as i had seen her on Rightstuf.

    As for yumi and her removable clothing, are you sure you are not talking about yourself?

    yup~ Mikuru and my max factory haruhi should be coming together according to HLJ… I hope hahaha… too bad… couldn’t get yuki… but wth i am no maganeko anyway… 1/4 mikuru is gonna burn my pocket so prolly going on a hiatus till i see something like Death Note’s Misa Misa hahaha!!!

    In the last image, who’s the lovely one in the swimsuit to the left of Haruhi? My only guess is Honami from Hani Hani: Operation Sanctuary.

    You managed to get Haruhi-sama so quickly from impulse, and yet I ordered mine back in January and am still waiting! There is no justice in this world! :(
