Fall 2007 anime – Stripey’s 10 picks
I don't usually do season previews but was sufficiently psyched up after reading Hashihime's (a very excellent guide indeed) to put up mine. Here's 10 series I've got my eye on.

With Tanaka Rie, Koshimizu Ami, Nogawa Sakura, Nakahara Mai and Mamiko Noto onboard, this is one series packed with seiyuu talent. Of course it could become another Lovedol but I'm sure JC Staff wouldn't allow that.

(Nana Mizuki X Kawasumi Ayako)Madhouse = Sure win! Or so I hope. Madhouse has been steadily rising through my studio ranking lately with Claymore, Black lagoon etc. But how they would handle something as delicate as Mokke remains to be seen. I have yet to forget the atrocity that is Ichigo 100%.

I'm mainly drawn to the fact that this is Production IG's 20th anniversary celebratory production. Of course it may not mean much after all Gainax's 20th anniversary commemorative work was the very forgettable Konomini.

With 'heartful love story' as its promo slogan, it's hard to resist. It also boasts of a talented seiyuu cast involving Koshimizu Ami, Nakahara Mai and Tamua Yukari. My only uncertainty is the animation studio - Dogakobo?

I'm looking for more closure to those dangling storythreads in season 1. It'd also sweet to see continual Yuuji/Shana's growth and Kazumi's futile challenge. Oh, looking forward to seeing Shana level up to match Alastor's flame I mean fame.

SUNRISE? GUNDAM? Sign me on! Trainwreck or not, it's going to be an interesting ride. Let's see if SUNRISE breaks the body count record this time.

Oh how I miss ZEXCS! I doubt there'll be much siscon drama here but with a scenario writer who did Da Capo/Kagihime and a director who worked on Canvas2/Megadere, I can definitely hope.

Frankly, I'm surprised myself that DCII is not in the 1st or 2nd place of this list. I suspect it's because I've been spoilt. I don't know the details but I have very unfortunately been exposed to one of the major twist of the plot. Plus there's no real siscon in the series despite 'nii-san' or 'otouto-kun' being strewn around. Because Otome and Yume are merely childhood friends with Yoshiyuki. Besides, I'm still bitter over FEEL's DCSS. Still, it IS no. 3 on this list so yeah, I'm probably tsundere for this show possibly out of my love for the cast's grandmothers.

The true spiritual successor with Da Capo in this season in my opinion. The preview highlighted 4 key aspects - onii chan, confrontations, good music and Nanao Naru's beautiful character designs. All of these are instrumental in elevating Da Capo to my top 5 series. If only ZEXCS was helming this production....

KyoAni X KEY = OVER 9000000000000!!!! Honestly I'm looking forward to this more than I did with Kanon since I know zilch about the plot.
Ahh, looks like a busy season ahead.

The one i’m most looking out for is probably Ef… The music is the promo was very melodic and the art and scenery is simply beautiful…
I also watched the OP video for the game and lets just say Shinkai makoto really knows how to do backgrounds… Damn the lighting and everything is spectacular although I know the anime won’t be worked on by him..
September 19th, 2007 - 04:24
BTW, you do know your #1 pick is using KimiKiss as its image right Stripey

holyman282: The more I listen to the bgm, the more I’m psyched up over the series. Now to find the game OP
moyism: Doh! Thanks moy for pointing that out
Maybe Haruhi sama is trying to tell me something about Kimikiss XD
September 19th, 2007 - 06:05
OH WHAT GOD AWFUL PICKS! SAVE ME FROM THE CHEAP MOE OVERDOSE!
September 19th, 2007 - 06:26
I would’ve skipped Ef if I didn’t hear the music. Too many shows to watch…
September 19th, 2007 - 06:36
Thank you for the wonderful recommedations. I’ll check out the music of that one show and will definitely be getting Clannad fo’ sho.

tj han: Ah great to cya ard tj. And to think I already threw in 00 and Ghost Hound to cushion the moe radiation.
waffo: I was really captivated by the music
Of course the snippet of confrontational dialogue in the PV caught my attention too.
Plaid_Knight: You’re most welcome.
Hoping these series live up to their expectations.

If I did a preview post, I’d have almost the same list ^_^ Although I’d have to put D.C. II at #1–I’m hoping for an Otome win, and the smart money seems to be betting on either Otome or Yume, so fear not, I think we’ll be getting a healthy does of siscon regardless. I let myself be spoiled on the main plot twist too, but I’m still looking forward to it–I’m just hoping they can do justice to it in just 13 episodes.
September 19th, 2007 - 09:23
If there’s any blogger I’d expect to have the same list, it’d you and Adun
Being of the imouto-sect, I’d have to root for Yume. It helps that she’s played by Horie Yui which also ups her chances of winning Yoshiyuki’s heart
I’m of 2 minds for its 13 ep run. On one hand, I’d expect a tigher plot. Plus FEEL did so much better with Otoboku (12 eps) than 26 eps of DCSS suggesting they possibly work better with one cour. (Wild speculation! XD) But on the flip side, I’m concerned that the fabulous DCII characters wouldn’t get their deserved screentime.
Hoping FEEL strikes a good balance.

Ok, it didn’t like my “greater than 3″ heart emoticon. Sorry Stripey I guess you have to edit and remove some of my comments xD
Here’s the full comment:
But yeah, you’ve nailed the important ones:
*dodges the flames and Kotori bullets*
-Clannad!
-Shana 2, need I say more?
-Ghost Hound. From what I’ve seen from the trailers it looks like a solid piece of work. And after Seirei no Moribito, the GitS creators can’t make a failure. Also a plus for the Jigoku Shoujo character design, even though you should watch Jigoku Shoujo only for Mamiko Noto *heart*
-Da Capo 2. Well Otome and Yume both look like two new Nemus to love, even though it pains me to not be able to see Nemu
I’ve totally missed Kimikiss (read Mamiko Noto), which I will now put on my must-watch fall list. Thanks for the post!

Too many, too many. A lot of shows look like they have potential (including a few that didn’t make your list), I’m just glad that most of the shows I’m watching right now are going to end in 1-2 more eps.
September 19th, 2007 - 12:19
Stripey, a question out of the blue: do you know Japanese? How good is it?
September 19th, 2007 - 14:11
I can’t really rank what I’m looking forward to this season as I watch nearly all the things that come out, though I would have to say Clannad and Da Capo II are at the top. Though I’m rooting for an Otome ending in Da Capo II.
September 19th, 2007 - 16:36
I haven’t really been following what the new season but i am going to be watching these shows.
Shana 2
Genshikan 2
Blue Drop (Yuri FTW)
September 19th, 2007 - 20:40
flaskis: hey no prob. Took the liberty to delete some of the comments. Sorry abt the trauma my site has been giving you
Otome and Yume are a mishmash of Nemu and Junichi’s character culminating to a “what a drag” tsundere Yume. This should be fun to watch
But yeah, missing Nemu too…
Icteridae: Too many indeed! XD I had a hard time keeping to 10. But the few more I’m interested in would be Blue Drop, Sketchbook, Kodomo no jikan and yes genshiken 2.
Beowulf Lee: My Japanese is rudimentary at best. I studies the language for 3 years many years ago, attained JLPT 3 (which is like elementary school level? or less haha!) Now I learn from watching anime which has the unsavory effect of me speaking like a 16 yr old school girl when I attempt Japanese speech.
Adun: If figure quality is to be made a criterion for supporting haremettes, Otome should get my vote seeing how she’s the best of Kotobukiya’s releases
But my imouto-upbringing compels me to root for yume
Xellos-_^: Blue drop looks very promising. Helps that Yuuko Gotou’s in the cast too
September 20th, 2007 - 00:36
As impressive as the staff for Kimikiss sounds, I think Clannad trumps it big time, with some of the same cards:
Mai Nakahara, Ai Nonaka, Akemi Kanda, Houko Kuwashima, Mamiko Noto, Kikuko Inoue, Satsuki Yukino
And that’s just the names I recognize off the top of my head (including my three all-time favorites at the end). That’s one hell of a harem…
September 20th, 2007 - 01:58
>>”But the few more I
September 20th, 2007 - 06:18
quigonkenny: Wow! That’s quite a seiyuu lineup too! The truth is I have been actively avoiding news on Clannad knowing it. is. gonna. be. good.
But that’s absolutely bolstered my faith in the production. Looking forward to it more than ever. Thanks for highlighting it.
flaskis: Great to see we share the same love for the OVA. I enjoyed the OVA very much and not, as some would put it, in a lolicon kind of way but as a very sweet coming of age tale. All the girls are precocious but they are all going through a phase not uncommon to girls. Admiration mistaken for attraction to the brotherly, elderly male figure, attraction to fellow girlfriends who seem to be able to stand on their own. I see it happening in girl schools all the time. Looking forward to the TV series
September 20th, 2007 - 09:13
*I see it happening in girl schools all the time.*
let’s pretend we dunno why stripey is those schools *_^
j/k
September 20th, 2007 - 11:09
So we are not supose to ask why a married middle age man is going around peeking into schools and looking at school girls?
September 20th, 2007 - 12:05
Would it be shocking if I admitted to teaching children in some capacity and have been at the receiving end of 9 yr old crushes before?Yeah some things are better left unsaid XD
September 20th, 2007 - 22:40
random fanfic:
Class: “Good. Mor. Ning. Mis. The…”
Stripey frowns.
Stripey: “Class…is this how you greet your teacher?”
Class falls silent.
Stripey turns and writes on the whiteboard “Oni-chan”…

Besides Clannad, I’m looking forward to D.C. II since I missed the bandwagon last time (I never saw nor played the old D.C.) ^^’
On the other hand, what I’m most looking forward to, which is not listed here, is the installment in the You’re Under Arrest series. Not seen anything from it though and Hashihime used a picture from the old artbook soo…it’s probably best if I expect it to be around average : /
September 21st, 2007 - 11:44
I can’t see watching ALL of these if only because plot parallels might dilute impact… but Kimikiss pure rouge and Mokke have pleasant looking art and premise. Maybe ef…
Will probably download the first ep of all and then do much pruning.
I’m actually hoping this will be a very quiet season for me after the last two.
I’m still stewing on whether to get twisted up in Clannad… I know many consider it a cornerstone but I’m suffering a bit overload of Key/Kyoani at this point. Will probably download it and save it for a rainy day.
September 21st, 2007 - 19:17
Great picks. I’m definitely looking forward to Shana II, but most of the shows you mentioned are definitely on my radar. =D
September 24th, 2007 - 22:37
crimson: LOL! I’d prefer Stripey-nii
TehShaw: I heartily recommend Da Capo
DCSS too if only you become a through and through Kotori fan.
Vexx: I expect more pruning too and am hoping for grafting too. One of the most exciting things about the new season is the possibility of an unknown series taking animedom by storm
Orion: Glad that we share the same inclinations
Looking forward to your thoughts when the new season breaks
September 25th, 2007 - 07:25
All of you can burn in hell for not mentioning KnJ.
Specially you, Stripey. In the name of Haruhi, I command you to explain why is not on the 1st or 2nd place.
September 25th, 2007 - 11:54
Sherman, no one here want sto go to jail.
As for Stripey, he goes around to elementry schools a lot so he gets his fill of lolis.
September 25th, 2007 - 19:58
Sherman, the Ramni: LOL! KnJ’s is my 11th pick of the Fall season
Nevertheless, you can be sure I’ll be watching ep 1 given how much I enjoyed the OVA.
Xellos-_^:
>As for Stripey, he goes around to elementry schools a lot so he gets his fill of lolis.
Now I know why my online reputation is so tarnished XD If I’m wrongfully arrested, I’m not going down alone, Xellos-_^
September 27th, 2007 - 08:24
Xellos you coward. I’m willing to even suffer the death sentence if that means I can be true to my loli lovin.
On another topic, I gladly accept Stripey’s hobby as a show of distinction. Bring us sum pics next time!
October 8th, 2007 - 17:24
Mokke animation looks kind of eh. Similar to US kid cartoons/older animation drawing style I think. But generally seems like its targeted for a younger audience.
Of the new shows that have been subbed so far:
-Clannad: Every bit as good as expected
-DCII: About the same so far
-Blue Drop: A little bit difficult to get through the first episode, we’ll see how the next couple eps go before I make a decision
-Dragonaut: Reminds me a little of Witchblade, but in a good way. Again, a few more eps will be needed though to decide
-Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun: Surprise gem. I’d say it’s something of a cross between Hayate and Tsukuyomi moon phase (or maybe Girls Bravo), though it lacks the loli component (I like it better that way anyways).
-Gundam 00: It’s Gundam. First ep wasn’t all that dramatic but it’ll definitely get there.
-Myself, Yourself: Aoi’s voice is a little grating on my ears, but I guess I can deal. Looks good.
-Night Wizard: “For the request I am going to ask of you, please reply with either ‘Hai’ or ‘Yes’”
-Rental Magica: Doesn’t look too bad, kinda similar to Ghost Hunt, except inverted with the president being mostly useless and the assistants being more powerful. Though the eyepatch thing makes it look sort of like a wannabe code geass.
-Shana II: More of the same from Shana I. I suspect if you liked the first one you’ll like this one and if you didn’t, you won’t.
Those are all the new ones I’ve seen the first ep so far. Still waiting on kimikiss, bamboo blade, ef a tale of memories, ghost hound but that should round out my fall season ^^.
October 10th, 2007 - 08:35
Sherman, the Ramni: LOL! No way I’m gonna to risk the whip just for some pictures
Icteridae: will definitely be checking out Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun. Thanks for the highlight
