Hontouni sale – for a limited time at Central National Library!
Adun has an interesting poll and post about selling one's anime merchandises. It comes at a very appropriate time since I have decided to sell almost 1/3 of figure collection and most of my MEGAMI magazines. So am I finally quitting on the PassionTM? On the contrary, I'm pruning my collection precisely because I'm trying to shed some deadweight to usher in the next golden age.
2007 has been an amazing year for figures. As I fawn daily over my figures, it becomes more apparent that the beauty of the 2007 figures are overshadowing their 2006 senpais. Be it dynamism in the poses, production values or facial sculpt, the later figures are a notch above. (Of course 2006 Alter Fate remains the crown jewel of my collection.) Hence in a bid to keep the collection, for the lack of a better word, elite, the lesser figures need to go.
But not every figure I'm releasing are inferior figures. Some are just unsuitable for the collection despite their fabulous craftsmanship. For example, both 1/7 Iris and Kureha (especially the latter) are fearfully and wonderfully made. Unfortunately, they disrupt the overall collection aesthetic through either their size or unconforming theme. Below are the figures that I would like to release to a more loving collector.
Incidentally I have an extra Max Factory's Asakura Ryoko and Alter Fate in my possession and welcome offers. XD
As for MEGAMI magazines, ever since I have turned to MEGAMI Deluxes and their visual collections, MEGAMI has become obsolete for me. I always remember what Tsubaki said about Deluxes being redundant in view of the magazine but I think the truth is the reverse, especially if you only buy MEGAMI for the beautiful posters like myself. Deluxes/visual collections afford greater longevity than the foldouts in the magazines through improved protection in a book form. Plus, I have now diversified to artbooks, I'd need to consolidate my resources. MEGAMI Magazines are not efficient for my purposes given that I only buy them for the posters which makes up only 10% of the publication. Moreover, a single MEGAMI Deluxe is the distilled goodness for up to 6 months of the magazine which is very good for the wallet indeed.
Anyhow, for the handful of local readers interested to buy these figures, back issues of MEGAMI magazines (in PRISTINE condition) and other anime-related paraphernalia, I have tasked a friend who's setting up pushcart stall at the Central National library on the 17-19 Dec and the 21 Dec (10am - 6pm) to sell them for me. Do drop by if you're in the area. Tell him you read HTnD and get a bigger discount! For everyone else (and I welcome local and oversea buyers alike), do drop me a mail at stripey[AT]gmail.com if you think any one of the above figures' destiny lies in your shelf.
The PVC bishoujos beckons.....

Are you selling Alter Fate at the library too?
December 16th, 2007 - 01:22
Damn, I wouldn’t mind buying the Elwing, but alas, Xmas has snuck up and my monetary flow this week has gone to buying presents. Perhaps if no one buys it after New Years, I’d be very interested.
December 16th, 2007 - 04:18
Not least because I have entrusted you with the sacred task of buying some issues of MEGAMI magazine on my behalf and you can enjoy them too – that’s what I call a pareto-optimal outcome! :3
December 16th, 2007 - 14:30
Interesting – is anyone allowed to set up shop anywhere in public areas? Or are gov’t issue licenses/paperwork/etc needed? Sounds like a great way to get rid of all your excess merch.
December 17th, 2007 - 07:03
Sol: Yes I will
But I think you know already.
Adun: Looking at Day 1 sales (non-sale), I suspect Elwing will be on your shelf by next Easter
Let me know!
Zyl: Thanks bro! I really appreciate leeching off your purchases.
Part of the reason why I encourage your purchase in Singapore. Meanwhile, pls be gentle with my virginal Mai HiME and Scrapped Princess XD
Ender: There are push-carts (rather fancy ones) available for rentals at designated places. Mine comes at S$20 per day which is cheap but the traffic in the area is low. Sharing with others help defrays costs. I kept my racier MEGAMIs for fear of corrupting the young visiting the library. XD
December 17th, 2007 - 22:42
Yes I do know, but to clarify, thats not me, just a friend lol. Still its instant ko for my wallet. Any discounts? ^^
December 18th, 2007 - 00:05
Hmm…low traffic eh? Is there another pushcart-friendly location that is better for selling figurines? Or is there a particular reason why you picked the library? For some reason, figurines library just doesn’t seem like a good match in my mind :p
December 18th, 2007 - 00:23
Oh, I forgot to mention…
I can’t believe you’re selling off your Kureha figurine – the others I can sort of see why you’d want to part with them, but this one is just incredibly well-designed. Scandalous! What aspect of it doesn’t match the rest of your collection? Perhaps it is just *too* good looking
Runner up in the “why the heck are you getting rid of it” list is your Saika, although I would think the onee-sama look would definitely be more befitting of Zyl than yourself.
December 18th, 2007 - 08:52
Sol: You have one dedicated friend
Emailed you the latest offer.
Ender: Actually my friend was involved in the setup there so he kinda roped me in.
For $20 a day, I just couldn’t say no.
As for Kureha… it hurts…. bad. I still love her very much but she really towers over my collection being a 1/7… With your comment, I’m now having second thoughts about releasing her. Saika is a fantastic sculpt although her facial proportions could be slightly improved. Btw she’s 17 in the game so still a bishoujo worthy of being in my collection XD Ack, my resolution to sell my beloved figures are weak and now wavering! XD
December 18th, 2007 - 10:10
Then let it waver! That Kureha is just too good to pass up, in my opinion.
;__;
December 18th, 2007 - 18:39
I’m sorry, but I did not receive any mail from you. Must have gotten lost somehow.
December 18th, 2007 - 19:09
Unbelievable that you have Aisia.
Wasn’t she responsible for single-handedly ruining the entire D.C. franchise?
December 18th, 2007 - 23:20
Hemisphere: Uguu! Now I can see the pleading in her eyes not to let her go… XD
Sol: Sent again!
dsong: LOL! Yes, I lay the crash of DCSS squarely on her shoulders. But in my collection, we do not discriminate against stupidity.
Entry requirement is merely overwhelming physical beauty which figure Aishia possess to some extent. Man, I’m soo shallow XD
December 26th, 2007 - 15:51
So, just curious….how did you sales go?
December 27th, 2007 - 06:37
Heh, well we didn’t manage to sell any figures XD
Still we did make because of the other items like jewelery, stationery and other odds and ends. I got more enquiries online about the figures than 4 days of pushcart
December 28th, 2007 - 15:00
Yeah i’ve been having some trouble selling off a few of my figures as well… Are you planning on selling them online maybe?
December 30th, 2007 - 08:21
Actually I did try.
On both ebay and yahoo auctions. But visibility was poor especially for ebay which requires money to keep from being buried under the truckloads of other sellers. But I’m not giving up
Hopefully tenacity/longevity would allow me to meet the right buyer some time.
December 31st, 2007 - 01:07
Just wondering if you got my email about some figures that I’m interested in buying off you. Let me know via email.
February 29th, 2008 - 16:27
I’m about to ebay off my Shuffle! collection since the R1 DVD distribution is in progress hoping to snare some “uptic” from that.
We’ll see if I can even recover my unit cost back much less my shipping expenditures
0.o
March 2nd, 2008 - 22:40
Oh your shuffle collection is R2s? Yeah usually such change of hands would include some losses XD All the best for the sale
May 8th, 2008 - 08:36
You still seeling your shining wind kureah?
May 11th, 2008 - 07:59
Sorry Chris,
Kureha has already been sold.
