hnkd 3/2008: Lieutenant Stripey's Secret Recipe

What are the Stripey-ke's individual eleven secret herbs and spices?

Just in case anyone was wondering what DFC means.

The Chinese mistranslation of the KFC slogan is quite an old and infamous net meme; for readers who don't read Chinese, the humour comes from the all too literal mistranslation - we (??) do (?) chicken (?) right (??) with the unfortunate coincidence that 'do chicken' (??) is a colloquialism for 'being a prostitute'. orz

  1. Hehe breast meat… Stripey doesn’t seem much for thigh meat either. :P

  2. OMG hahaha, I guess a little bit goes a long way T__T.

  3. somehow i always wonder whether des stripey’s wife read hiis blog

  4. “We do chicken correctly” lol
Sometimes, a liberal translation could be better. McDonald’s kinda made me laugh a bit with their “????” (I think that’s it) lol

  5. Whole books have been written on dodgy translations after all… endless comedy is born from merely getting a few letters wrong. XD

Nevermind ignorance of colloquialisms and figures of speech. I hear Mitsubishi’s Bahero (roughly “wanker” in local slang) line didn’t sell very well in Latin America for some reason…

  6. Okay, this is scary. I actually made the same chicken joke (leg or breast?) on IRC before seeing this.

So… what would the wings signify?

  7. I’ve wondered what the Chinese (or Japanese) translation of F*nger Lickin’ Good would be. Then again, maybe I really don’t want to know!
