True Tears 04 – What women want
I don't get Hiromi. From her verbose justifications, it's clear that she's trying too hard to convince Shin (maybe even herself?) of her supposed crush on Jun. Yet, despite the distance she desires, it's evident that she also wishes to be chummy with Shin (photo moments and greetings). An expression of her amicable personality? Her hopes to be part of the Nakagami household? Or the result of a conflicting shoujo heart? I guess we'd only know after the workings of her relations with Mrs Nakagami crystallises.
Noe. For someone who's so lucid about the emotions/pretenses of others, does she realise her growing feelings for Shin? How about onii-chan's feelings for her? Does earmarking Shin to be the one worthy source of her tears means she would not only be investing chicken feed but her very own emotions in the Raigomaru-replacement? And just where can get those cute boots-warmers?
What about Ai? Is she making the same mistake as Takayuki (Kiminozo) and Yoshiyuki (DCII)? What was she thinking when she reciprocated the sneaky Nobuse hand-holding?! Did she understand its implications or does she naively believe Nobuse would see it as a simple gesture of friendship valid only for road-crossing? Compassion or sympathy in love has be the cruelest type of kindness. Hoping Ai extricates herself before it's too late.
I guess that is why True tears remain fascinating. There are so many conflicting facets of the bishoujos that keep me guessing about their true motivations. That said, the one person I did get was Jun. I absolutely understand his more-than-brotherly affections for Noe (who with testosterone wouldn't?) and his call to matchmake Noe and Shin. I never NEVER want to be in his shoes.
Can't wait to see how big a theme siscon would be in True tears.

with each passing episode i feel more and more in love with noe…
her expression after eating the bird feed was so cute…
i agree with you that you can’t blame jun for falling for his overly cute imouto and i respect him for having the restraint to not show his feelings even at the cost of his own…
ai might have set shin as her target but maybe she’s actually falling for nobuse…
ai also has nice shoes but i like noe’s shoes are better…

No matter how things turn out, it’s apparent to me that Noe has become the lead girl in the story and am hoping things will stay that way. The gap between Noe and Hiromi is only widening with each passing episode. At this point I just don’t see how Hiromi is a plausible choice unless Noe drops out – she shares better chemistry with Shin, never fails to cheer him up or encourage him, and doesn’t come with the excess baggage. Just look at how much happier Shin looks with Noe as opposed to Hiromi – he may think he is in love with Hiromi, but he’s falling hard for Noe as well…
As for Hiromi, hoping she can break from her past and make a fresh start. I think it’s cute that Jun and Hiromi call each other by their numbers (#4 and #6), and hopefully we will see a double date some time down the line. While this would mean just about everyone would have to go with their second choice (except Nobuse), sometimes the second choice is better than the first…

Oh bugger off you sleazy sis-con tanuki, eater of Raigomaru. Aiko is [retty much not in the running, and I suspect that her eventual acceptance of the redoubtable Nobuse is going to be the theme of her story since let’s be honest Shin and Aiko have no chemistry. Besides the Freifau Noe von Isurugi has a decided advantage. Aiko’s dilemma is “is she going stay with the one who loves her? Is she going back the one she loves. Someone is going to cry one way or the other. Some one is going to thank the stars above.” Nobuse is hardly a sneak I do have my suspicions that the lad knows more than he let’s on, besides there was no jealousy on his part, what civility!
I posted my thoughts here

In short I think that Hiromi and Shin do share something as gloriously demonstrated by the facial wash tooth paste scene. While it is clear that Noe can make Shin-chan happy, the Nakagami wife is clearly at fault for the Shin-chan Hiromi estrangement. Once that is overcome who’s to say happy Hiromi is going to be any thing less than a worthy adversary?
It will be interesting to see how things pan out, though it remains to be seen if no. 4 and no. 6 can find a common bond.

I am enjoying this show quite a lot (actually more than Clannad, who’d a thunk?) Not much to say so far though. This show, KKPR, and couple of others are giving me some hope for the almost fossilized artform of eroge ‘win a girl, some girl’ anime.

WHERE’S THE MAJOR LOVE OF SISCON in the helmet scene. Stripey, I bloody hate you cos my thought processes go Stripey over Siscon. ~_~ This is an SOS situation.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Ai–settle for Nobuse? Or realize the fact she couldn’t stop thinking about Shinichi is a sign Nobuse’s not the right one for her, and she should move on? In any case, I can’t picture her being a serious contender for Shinichi, since he doesn’t seem to see her as more than a friend. They did a good job with Jun’s character making him just eccentric enough you can easily see he’s related to Noe, makes me wonder what their parents are like…
Hiromi with the camera busting up laughing was the highlight for me–I’m surprised Hiromi didn’t melt my laptop screen into slag with her moeness in that scene.

kaz3phyrous: I like girls who are a little spoiled. Not spoilt as in that they are unkind or inconsiderate but spoiled because they want to be fawned over. That’s one of the reasons I like imouto-types. Noe does this REALLY well and my heart goes out to Jun who needs to actively resist his sister’s charms XD
rev: Shin’s animosity to his mom may have 2 layers – unfair treatment of Hiromi and the issue of him inheriting the family dance traditions. I wonder if there’s more.
dsong: Ah…. so that’s what #4 is about… thanks for the highlight! Actually the gap I see is Noe and the rest of the cast. Noe is so amazing that it’s like she exist on a whole different plane. That’s why I believe a Shin X Hiromi would be more credible given that they are more ‘mortal’. Jun is as unpretentious as his sister which would suggest their compatibility, except, it was reveal this ep that Jun may be the greatest liar yet about his feelings for Noe. Can’t wait to see how that plays out. XD
Crusader: LOL! Glenn Frey’s “the one you love” has been my favourite song since high school as a great deal of love dilemmas I have seen in RL can be factorised into this problem. I actually think Aiko and Shin has potential. After all they’ve been friends for a while and from the conversation in ep 3, Aiko does understand Shin and Shin goes to Aiko-nee for advice. That friendship must count for something. There’s apparent chemistry probably because Shin treats Aiko like ‘one-of-them-guys’. But the truth is Aiko is probably the most womanly of the lot. Her body language, the way she leans, her petite build etc all scream sensuality. I’m sure Shin would give her a second look if he wasn’t so smitten with Hiromi. Pity
vexx: Actually my viewing for Clannad has stalled for the 2nd time and I can’t find the motivations to complete kotomi’s arc.
suguru: Hiromi busting out that phone-camera was incredible cute but more importantly mystifying. XD I’m still trying to piece her motivations together as to the conflicting signals of pushing and pulling Shin. And we know that feminine enigma is the no. 1 reason of women-worship XD

@Stripey
I doubt that barring a significant change in the current situation Aiko will pine, but it will not avail her. Noe promised to patch things up between Shin-chan and Hiromi, and you wouldn’t dare doubt the word of Noe would you devourer of Raigomaru? Besides Aiko is competing with the lovely memory and years of longing for Hiromi and the indefatigable Noe for a place in Shin’s heart one of them has to go, and its not going to be soon…
Aiko’s chance came and went with the tides of time, sure she may be the most mature of the three, but memories are a funny thing and Noe is just awesome. Her little date just showed her trying very hard to woo Shin-chan and give the boy a clue. I have to say it was very much an exercise in futility. Besides jilting Nobuse is a perquisite and I have to say an angry Nobuse is going to wipe the floor with a emo conflicted Shin-chan. Unlike that sissy Shinji Taira, Nobuse is fighter and a real man! While it is not fair, if Aiko was really mature she’d understand that unrequited love is a poor substitute for a guy who would love her back just as much if not more. Sure Aiko is a great heroine in her own right, but Nobuse isn’t exactly unworthy of her love either. At any rate how can you despise a man who only has one woman in his heart?
As for pretty women like Aiko, they matter little, but a weapon of infinite conquest, ah that is my weakness. Not sure how Nauzron feels about you leering at womanly Aiko…
January 29th, 2008 - 09:09
Man, that’s a fantastic take on the True tears conundrum although I’d be sad for Aiko since she’s an absolutely eligible woman who deserves not only love but the right man to love.
As for my Lordess, she’s not in the least threatened by 2D women. As for the 3D ones, well they got married too. XD

Shinichiro’s response to Hiromi’s “Are you distancing yourself from me?” truly made me wince, even after watching it a second time. I’d never ever want to be in either position. Even if Hiromi did deserve what was due to be said, I feel for her.
Despite that, another aspect of her is revealed when she takes a photo of Shinichiro with her phone: by her natural reaction, she still does gravitate to Shinichiro, and pretty closely too. I know many people are still saying that there’s a good chance that she and Jun will pair up later on, but until Jun can draw out something as natural as that from Hiromi, she’s still in the running, and perhaps even leading contender for Shinichiro’s heart.
Another problem I see with Hiromi eventually going out with Jun is that the whole Mrs Nakagami issue’s relevance will be greatly reduced. A major obstacle that separates Hiromi from Shinichiro would be Mrs Nakagami’s intense disapproval of her, and that’s not relevant anymore if she eventually ends up with Jun. So unless they intend to retain Mrs Nakagami’s coldness towards Hiromi post-resolution, I think that the buildup towards the parents’ past points to Shinichiro-Hiromi, and its resolution would eliminate a major obstacle in the pairing.
On another note, Crusader has some valid points about Nobuse. Initially I dismissed it as self indulgence, but now that I review the scene, he does come across as a sensitive, caring person. I hope that we can see more of that trait of his in upcoming episodes.
And finally, note to self: Happy Hiromi wins the day. Any day. Every day. XD

You’d make a great anime prophet Cipher! I like your holistic approach in establishing Hiromi’s role in view of the greater scheme of things.
Personally while Noe is my favourite girl of the series, Hiromi X Shin has my support since they are more of the same wavelength and their childhood friendship would serve as a great foundation for further relationship.
January 31st, 2008 - 13:12
Hiromi X Shin may be on the same wavelength but it sounds a lot more like static to me. They were close when they were little but there didn’t seem to be much progress in their relationship since then. It’s not like they were very close friends when Hiromi moved in. Shin’s mother seems to be taking preventive measures as opposed to trying to stamp out what’s already there.
It’s quite ironic that Noe, despite knowing Shin and Hiromi for a much shorter period of time, has a much better read on the situation. Maybe she won’t get together with Shin, but at this point it might take something drastic, like Noe dumping Shin, double incest, or a death.
February 1st, 2008 - 08:31
Given the way we were teased with that half-naked hugging shot earlier, I am surprised Jun was revealed so quickly. I know it’s a short series, but it does suggest he will have a larger role.
February 1st, 2008 - 20:48
dsong: The main reason why I feel Noe X Shin are not compatible is because Noe’s thought processes, powers of observations are way beyond the mortal Shin. Them being together will cause an imbalance in the Force
Shin and Hiromi are the more normative couple. Noe needs to find an exceptional boyfriend that matches her caliber… maybe her siscon bro?
Derek: I’m certain Jun will an important role. Surely his seemingly less-than-healthy love for Noe is a tantalising plot element for more drama.
February 1st, 2008 - 21:51
You can certainly make the case that Noe is other-worldly and much too good for Shin; I suppose Otoha is out of the running in H2O for the same reason. Have to give the mortals a chance, I guess…
A perverse side of me wishes that Hiromi is indeed Shin’s blood-related sister; that way we can have two siscons battling each other. Oh, it leaves so much to the imagination.
February 2nd, 2008 - 04:29
Hahaha, and so the angelic theories of Noe prosper in the hearts of her devotees
Food for thought: What if she discovers that the tears that she can get from Shinichiro aren’t the tears she’s searching for? What if they lie with someone even closer than Shinichiro could ever be? After all, “There is a boy who is closer to Noe than me”. Makes a case for a Noe-Jun pairing. I’m sure that he’d be much more willing to give her his tears compared to Shinichiro. After all, it was Noe’s grandmother, part of her family, who took her tears away. It would be poetic beauty to have another family member restore it back. And probably Shinichiro’s role in all this is to make Noe realise that, one way or another.
Well, it’s just an idea though. Noe-Shinichiro is a pretty good pairing as well, although I prefer Hiromi-Shinichiro for better plot continuity.
February 2nd, 2008 - 07:24
dsong: Taboo love is one of the most dramatic loves there is and I’d love to see 2 double dose of it in True tears!
Cipher: Great point. Actually I had wonder why Noe had not considered her brother’s tears but sought Raigomaru’s and now Shin’s instead. Is it tied to the criterion of being ‘one who can take flight’? How is Jun disqualified from her selection? Yet another intriguing element I can’t wait for TT to unveil.

latest preview from ep. 5 has raised siscon alert one level higher.

You mean the fact that Jun responded to Shin’s exchange policy?

*sighs about episode 5*
As long we get to see more Noe, I guess it’s okay if it’s not looking like ShinxNoe.
