[Artbook] Dengeki Hime Illustration collection ~ Girls museum

Dengeki Hime magazine is the bishoujo publication for the Japanese eroge art scene as MEGAMI magazine is home to anime bishoujos. Because of its racy content, the sale of Dengeki Hime is prohibited in Singapore (well at least it's sold not openly). So imagine my surprise when I found the abovementioned artbook on the shelves at the local Kinokuniya.
The illustration collection is a distillation of the best art of the DH magazines much like how MEGAMI Deluxe is to MEGAMI Magazine. While browsing the collection at the service counter, I was struck both by how beautiful the artwork and gratuitous the nudity were. The high school girls milling around the counter were giving me funny looks
Girl museum is essentially an anthological collection of eroge artworks much like Girls girls girl! of the E2 publications except superior. I'll let the pictures (albeit shoddily taken) speak for themselves.

Yet another worthy addition to my modest collection of artbooks. Hoping Kinokuniya brings in other Dengeki Hime collections soon.

I barely have any artbooks because no one here has the guts to sell them

Some of your examples.. are just really odd (the Asa/Primula one actually makes me a bit queasy). But then I recently got hold of the Yoko artbook from Gurren-Lagann and I thought half the book was just very strange.
Yeah, there’s a number of really racy artbooks at my local Kinokuniya (Portland) but I seriously don’t dare pick one up or buy them because the gloriously cute employees at the register might not be so eager to help me find material in the future
. Right now they think I’m cute or funny rather than scary
.
Online ordering solves a lot of problems.

Sixten: You just made me happier XD I look forward to “Sixten artwork collections” in future
Zeroblade: Not all Japanese artbooks are racy although most are
Maybe you can bug your local bookstores to start with Amano Kozue’s works. Beautiful and wholesome
vexx: heh, by strange do you mean not family friendly?
Yeah Singapore is still pretty conservative a country and a man caught browsing a ‘cartoon’ artbook full of sexy bishoujos would hardly be viewed as an honourable patron of 2D art. XD

If I put out a full-color artbook with the skills I have now I would get laughed at. Wait four years or so. In the meantime, this water-holding frog is the closest thing I have to an illustration collection.

Well… by “strange” I mean they aren’t even really sexy and seem out-of-character.
Sometimes I use the word “clinical” — no romance or feeling in it.
I really don’t have a lot of interest in art or fan-art that puts a character in a situation they’d never do or an outfit they’d never wear. I mean, sometimes it works (like an embarrassed Kagami from Lucky*Star exposing more skin than she thinks proper in a cosplay outfit or being demure for that special guy she finally lands) but often I see characters just misused. One can make very sexy photos of just about any character but I just feel like they should be true to the character’s personality.

Sixten: You may not be on par with the top Japanese illustrators but I surely prefer your style to many other works found in several of my anthological artbooks.
I’d buy your collection now.
vexx: Ah ic.
But it’s interesting since these artworks are by their original artists from the games. Maybe the anime artists have the advantage of weaving their personalities into their art through a better understanding via constructing the anime.
