XD To be honest, Kannagi's bishoujo designs aren't quite up my alley. Beside the hair, I also thought Tsugumi doesn't have a small enough waist. Don't quite like Nagi's odd fringe and eyebrows either but hey, it's more than compensated by a pair of the most beautiful thighs in all of animedom. Still, maybe that explains why Zange's my fav. That said, the design barrier can be overcome. SHUFFLE! had terrible designs imho (mainly due to incompatible colour schemes). In fact Asa was the worst with her asymmetric hair. Yet see how I love her after ep 8. :) Tsugumi needs to work harder for tanuki love. :P To the point that it looks like she has a receding hairline! I actually read a majority of the xxxHOLIC manga eventually... and I came to the exact same conclusion as you did. I guess I can forgive strangely drawn bodies easier than strangely drawn faces.
