In consideration – 5 DVD boxsets from TheRightStuf

Save for the Shuffle! DVD bundle, TheRightStuf 12 days of xmas sale was a rather disappointing affair for me. The only other item that mildly tempting was the DNAngel Boxset offered on the 13th day but since it was not on my to-get list, I hardened my heart against acquiring it. Then came TRS's year-end clearance sale. Resolving to get some bargains out of this promotion, I dug deeper into the site to discover 5 potential purchases.

Shuffle DVD boxset - To be released in late March, the boxset is the reason I didn't buy the xmas bundle. Personally, SHUFFLE! hasn't been a very consistent series for me. The Shia and Nerine parts fell flat with me so I'm essentially getting the series for the Kaede/Asa/Primula bits which more than justifies the price.

Soukou no Strain DVD boxset - Given the new R1 title, I almost missed out on this boxset. Another series which could have ended so much better if the motivations for Ralph's betrayal were better conceived. Still the series was a great ride with some hair-raising moments.

Nanoha As DVD boxset - Frankly I'm not sure I should still be getting this boxset since I have the R3s. My only lament of the R3s is that it's in 4:3 format. If I can confirm that GENEON's release comes in 16:9, there will be no hesitation. Does anyone know?

Zero no Tsukaima DVD boxset No matter how the franchise has descended into anime hell, I'd never forsake my love for ZnT season 1. Personally I own a bootleg version of this series (R3 DVD rips - great visual quality, great subs) but am thinking of owning discs with English subs so that I can pimp ZnT goodness easier.

Love Hina DVD boxset One of my first loves. Looking back, it is a rather flawed series but there's no doubt that it's an enjoyable series that sparked off my anime revival. This would be a good chance to replace my crappy Odex VCDs bought years ago.

5 other series which I'm waiting for the boxsets include

1) Claymore
2) True Tears (coming as an Anime legend)
3) Seirei no Moribito
4) Sola
5) Kanon

2009 looks like it'd be a great year for my DVD collection. Now to confirm if Nanoha As is 16:9 before I place my orders.

    Sorry to disappoint you but even the R2 Nanoha DVDs are in 4:3 as well.

    Yeah, Nanoha A’s was never one of those shows where they aired 4:3 on TV but put 16:9 on the DVDs, or whatever. It’s just 4:3.

    Amazon.com lists A’s as full screen. The first season was full screen as well.

    If there was a Sola boxset to be released, I’d question if I want to buy it since I already own the R2 dvds.

    Kabitzin: LOL! Maybe the fact that he still did irked my siscon sensibilities XD The truth be said, I think I didn’t find the Emilies moelicious enough, despite them being light-hair, loli and all. Boy am I superficial… :P

    dodgethis / relentlessflame / Asrialys: Thanks for the highlight! Sigh looks like the anime gods haven’t been listening to my prayers. XD

    Flamehaze: Thanks for the affirmation! Looks like I’d be getting the R1s although I sincerely doubt it’d be better than my bootleg R3s – quality wise. I own both FMP TSR bootleg R3s and legit R1s and visual quality of the former is marginally better than the latter. Probably because of better eps per disc ratio. Still nothing beats the feeling of owning the real deal XD

    Adun: heh I know what you mean. After all R2s have the best visual quality, packaging and more. Still one of my main objectives of getting DVDs is to be able to spread anime love by loaning others my collection. It’d be easier if I had Eng subs. (My Chinese subs R3s not so popular with many of my friends :P ).

    I hope they have the extra season for the non-canon ends to Shuffle. My favorite are the Primula endings. ^_^

    Heh, from what I hear you need to pay them a dollar per disc for the censorship stickers. I’m not sure since I ask a friend to bring R1s in for me. :)
