Nodame Cantabile 3-6

Just caught the latest installments on Animax. The (creditless) English dub was actually pretty decent; I particularly enjoyed Streseman's faux German accent. But Chiaki didn't sound half as irritated enough and Nodame's 'gyabou!' and 'mukyaa!' were all cut so it's definitely the Japanese audio track for me.
It seems to me that, despite the fact that Nodame is the title character, the series is really about Chiaki and how his encounters are changing him. Nodame has the biggest impact and is the catalyst for meeting Mine, Masumi-chan and Streseman but I'm fascinated by how Chiaki is stumbling upon opportunities, gaining new experiences and, most of all, learning to work with other people and to see them as people rather than just musical technicians who must march in goose step to his batoning diktats, with the Noto Mamiko chara being a positive case in point.
Chiaki seems to have had a major relapse at the end of Ep 6 (missed chance to show him snatching the crown from the Pope and putting it on his own head) and I'm really looking forward to the next set of four episodes next week to see how S Orchestra will do while trying to resist, with all my might, the temptation to read Garten's posts (where I've also stolen the above screencaps from).

Re-reading Garten’s posts that you linked helped me to relive it all anew, even though I ran a rewatch just a month ago. “Everyone including Kiyora is shocked to hear this.” So good. But you definitely should avoid his retellings with all your strength.
As for Chiyaki being the linchpin of the proceedings, it’s true, but I think you’re only scratching the surface. The “Chiyaki shikkakuuuu! New Leader Arrived!” thing was the straightforward part.

@ Sojourner
Yes, I’m enjoying this very much indeed. Can’t wait for the next episodes.

There’s a lot going on here. E.g. I still don’t believe that Streseman is in some obscure Japanese college for nanpa, there has to be some bigger reason (foolish me, yes, this is animu but still…). Slightly perturbing that Nodame seems to have taken a back seat/comic relief role in Eps 4-6 too – can’t she do something to Chiaki break out his funk?

The thing is, Streisseman IS primarily in Japan for the Nampa. Really.
