Link Categorization Exercise
Baka-Raptor's blog roll housekeeping exercise has spurred me to tidy up mine too. But not so much with respect to dead or 'hiatus' blogs; I regularly remove links about three months after the last substantive anime-related post ("I'm still alive" posts usually indicate imminent collapse to me) and put the feed into the Grave of the Hiatusflies folder of my RSS feed reader. Nonetheless I've been struck by the similarity of the rules of thumb used by Baka-Raptor and me - a combination of topicality (i.e. anime, manga and related subjects), social obligation (comment/link reciprocity or interest) and activity (hello world, i'm still standing yeah, goodbye cruel world).
I'm also taking the opportunity to have some fun with the blog roll; the general link category of 'Anime Blogs' has been dispersed into various categories based on my perception of the linked blog's dominant writing style (though categorization never pleases everyone). Well, not that my blog roll creates much outgoing traffic anyway. OTL
Bishoujo Sect blogs tend to follow anime with, well, beautiful girl characters. Consequently exhibiting a strong preference for harem, romantic comedy, moé and dating sim/ero-game conversions. The category name parodies Shoujo Sect.
Gattai Da blogs are not just team blogs but those with a sense of humour with a sense of jokey bravado and camaraderie that I enjoy. Which turned out to be all the group blogs already on my blog roll. Category is named after that staple of multiple part giant robot shows, recently reprised in Gurren Lagaan.
Ippatsu blogs generally use the episodic posting format but also post with speed and write with snappiness that the word, one strike (??), implies.
I~yaaa~n♥ blogs write with a pervy tongue-in-cheek tone and/or about anime/manga that a lot of us have seen but don't even dare to list on our MAL. Apologies to Kurogane but every time I want to reassign his blog to Ippatsu, I hear a voice in my head that says: 'A cat is fine too...'
Shoujo Kakumei are blogs by female writers. I think my current list is a little short because quite a few of the female bloggers I follow come under the final category. Named after the series Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Naze Nani blogs favour editorials, essays, exposition, meta-commenting, not necessarily always tl;dr. Named after the Why and How segment of Martian Successor Nadesico which Mai HiME also paid homage to.
Nuku Nuku is a bit of a catch-all category for blogs covering the diverse cognate subcultures related to anime and manga such as seiyuu, figures, fan art, music - named after an oldie.
Yamayurikai, named after the Student Council of Maria-sama ga Miteru's Lilian, is the category for the blogs who love yuri too.

Social obligation is a real blogroll killer. For all this while, I’d been thinking that I’d rather have too many than leave someone out. However, now my blogroll is ridiculously long, and cutting some while leaving others is bound to hurt feelings.

Which is why announcing your cull and inviting responses was a great way both to tidy up the blog roll and to let others have their say.

Hehe, I like this kind of categorization. The titles are cute and it allows for amusing sorting.
Fun facts:
1) All the blogs with ‘moe’ in the title land in the Bishoujo Sect column (and in fact compose the majority of said column). Coincidence? Or something far more sinister?
2) I still can’t decide which category you would put your own blog in. The way you’ve cranked the goggles to 11 (or should I say THREE… some.) on Hayate would put most of your Iyaa~n and Yurikai category to shame.
The more you know. *star*
(P.S. The problem with the trojan on my blog is now officially dead. Redownloaded the theme and it appeared to be virus-free. Later, an accidental shuffling of files (I had a backup of the infected theme) on my computer would reveal it was the footer.php which contained the malicious intent. The only mystery remains how to seal this leak for future attacks. Thanks again!)

Wow, I’m still on your blogroll?
Wait, my “I’m still alive” post was on February. Three months… okay, I suppose that fits me in.

Well, you did say you have internet connectivity issues while you’re at uni. So I considered myself forewarned.
