double standards

I'm really glad that Kinokuniya brings in so much stuff from Japan to its Singapore branches and I'm always a sucker for their 20% discount windows. Just a little peeved that the rules and regulations of our glorious democratic people's island republic paradise prevents them from bringing in the really good stuff - which Hynavian has attested to too.

5th 4koma of 2009

Of course other than Kinokuniya and Yahoo! Japan Auctions, I like to go to:

And LOL recalling my shock the first time I saw a Kinokuniya in Kamakura and realized, after mental gears spun about like crazy, that it wasn't a bookstore but a supermarket!

  1. Let Stripey lead the way to enlightened buying… probably not the best idea :p

  2. Well, you can find a couple of Japanese yuri manga over at Liang Court’s Kinokuniya sometimes, if you search hard enough. The selection’s really limited (Octave, some YuriHime manga) and quite expensive though (~20-30+SGD?).

You may be surprised at some of the things you can find. I saw the latest copy of YuriHime the other day.. and I do remember seeing Morinaga Milk’s excellent Kuchiburu Tameiki long ago. Almost did a fangirl squeal in public. Almost.

  3. LOL!!! Keep up the yonkoma, I love it! Its even more funny when I actually know you guys in real person >_<

  4. From way over here in North America, it’s easy to be envious of the lower shipping rates from Japan to Singapore (and the shorter flight), but I guess it also has its downsides. At least Yahoo Japan is always an alternative :P

  5. when did Singapore get mounties?

  6. I say again… “It’s ART not PORN!” :)

The double standard exists. My pet example would be how Dengeki Hime’s “Girl’s Museum” is proudly displayed on their shelves while they refused my order of “Sweet girls” (also of the Dengeki Hime series).

Still, I’m grateful for their Sg presence and what seem to be a gradual relaxation of import restrictions. I simply love waltzing up to the customer counter for a preview of an artbook to screen out the duds!

  7. god it’s this incident again…. i’m in all kino hearing everything… muhahahaha

  8. lol, I don’t know what’s more hilarious. That you’re a tanuki, or that the tanuki has a thing for loli porn art.
