All of Sengoku Nadeko’s charms in a screencap

Since I have often been solicited for my thoughts on Nadeko of Bakemonogatari, here's a screen cap that examplifies all I love about her. Yes, we are looking at the most potent loli-jailbait since Primula of Shuffle!. Nadeko is at a dangerous age (some say more dangerous for dark tanukis that is). Straddling the boundaries of shoujo and womanhood, she is a irresistible mix of disarming innocence and womanly sensuality - Sweet yet subtly seductive. As Dark Stripey had confessed to me and I quote,

"Nadeko is soooo moe, I want to protect and bully her all at once."


Yes, Nadeko is so alluring that even honourable tanukis like myself feel the siren call of the dark side. Surprisingly, it wasn't the half naked Nadeko in bloomers (ep 9) or sukuru-mizugi Nadeko (ep 10) whom I thought most charming but seifuku Nadeko in ep 11. Her obscure anime references, girlish giggles, bashful side-glances invoke much more love than revealing costumes can ever do.

Sadly Nadeko is up against the bishoujo of the year - Senjougahara whom I have also backed 100% as the sole proprietor of Koyomi-onii chan's heart. Well, if it's any consolation, you, Sengoku Nadeko, are now on Stripey's - "Anime bishoujos I would NEVER want to meet in RL" chart - reserved only for the most babelicious and lolicious of the 2D realm.

PS: The not so good news is you also made it onto another of Dark Stripey's rare chart which I would not mention here in keeping this blog family-friendly.

    If only I could get past Kanbaru’s arc I’d know what all the fuss was about. I really need to get around to that sometime. But I do know Nadeko’s OP is <3

      Personally I thought Kanbaru’s arc was the weakest (no offense Zyl-aniki, I know how you love Kanbaru) because of all bishoujos afflicted with oddities, I sympathetize the least with her. Senjougahara, Mayoi and to a much lesser extent Nadeko were all tragic characters which an underlying good heart. But not Kanbaru whose base character seem to lean towards a selfish/evil disposition. Ep 9 makes me want to believe she repented but not enough to believe in her.

      Endure through the Kanbaru bits and you’ll not only be rewarded with Nadeko but the Tsubasa Cat arc which features the best of Nadeko AND Senjougahara (ironically).

        I don’t really mind evil/selfish characters, but something about her is just not clicking with me in the least. Oh well, I’ll probably get around to it eventually.

    Stripey: Haesslich: While I refute the lolicon tag, I think there’s a lot of wisdom in that doujin. THanks for the link.

    You do realize that means you do think that a Cat Is Fine Too, right? Oh, and that you’re a lolicon due to wanting that as is? ;)

    You hit the nail on the head with this post. I honestly didn’t feel much for Nadeko until the episode after her arc, which was when the giggle and everything relating to it kicked in.
