Sasameki Koto 04

The fanboys will be even more pleased with Miyako YuriWhen push comes to shoveWhy didn't I think of an idea like that when I was in high school!?

Summary:

In the changing room, Ushio brings up the sunset couple again, leading to Kiyori suggesting that she go on a princess hunt. Sumika realizes the couple are Tomoe x Miyako but the former also whispers that she saw Sumika x Ushio too. Tomoe proposes a club by girls only and for girls only, Miyako blackmails Sumika into joining as the two tag-team Sumika into revealing her crush on Ushio.

Sumika forces Masaki to go into Akemi-chan mode to suss out if any of Ushio's princess candidates are willing to go out with a girl but the self-defence mechanism of teenage girls proves too strong. Having exhausted her shortlist, Sumika goes to hunt for another candidate and tells Masaki to change to his old wig and wait for her return but as things would have it, directions from Kiyori and a chance encounter with Library-senpai sends Ushio to rendezvous with Yamasaki Akemi-chan who ends up as the fifth member of Tomoe's club. After the credits, their application is turned down by the teacher.

Reaction:

Man, I love Kiyori. Her HAHAHA! refusal just completely defeated Tomoe but, like the pleasantly meddlesome busybody that she is, still inserted herself into the Tomoe Club's initial gathering.

While I still think Sumika should deserves someone waaay better than Ushio, it was nice to see just another nice moment of empathy from Ushio when she refused to join Tomoe's club because that would, she thought, leave Sumika out alone in the cold. Ah, yet so near and yet so far. Which was perfectly captured by Tomoe x Miyako's observation of Sumika as passionate yet lonely, sometimes like a beast yet sometimes like a puppy. Which Sleepy s too.

Also Sumika needs to take a methodology course. Just because the girls refuse Akemi-chan doesn't mean that they will definitely reject Ushio - they are hardly perfect substitutes in economic, much less emotional terms. And whatever happened to gaydar?

What Others Are Saying:

  • hashihime opines that Chiwa Saitou is outstanding as Miyako - yes, it's an enjoyable performance but I'm still in Senjougahara Fascination mode. divine lauds Emiri Katou's performance as Kiyori - it's fun but she's going to stay Kagami first and foremost in my impressions for a while yet.
  • A Day Without Me can't stand Ushio and is actually rooting for Masaki. Will the series be able to win back Ushio support by the end or is it too late already?
  • Shinmaru gushes: 'What I love most about these characters in Sasameki Koto is that they are completely self-absorbed but in a way that is hilarious rather than annoying.' Actually IMHO Ushio become less annoying in this episode by showing her less self-absorbed side.

P.S. Karate Club knows Whose Yuri Is The Strongest for great justice.
