Ultimate idol-girlfriends ~ Stripey’s 2D picks

Have you ever wondered how it’d be like to be in Araragi’s shoes - dating the school idol? Apparently the tanuki ego allows such indulgent fantasies. While I did draw several conclusions from the rigorous mental exercise, I thought it’d be more appropriate to share my list of idol-girlfriends instead, in keeping the Hontouni spirit of bishoujo love.

Here’s 15 idol-bishoujos whom I deem to be the ultimate girlfriends in the 2D realm. They have one main defining trait – Hawtness - and a singular response from male/female alike (towards the boyfriend) – murder envy.

In no particular order of love -

Asakura Otome (DCIISS)
One of the 3 seitokaicho (student council president) on this list. Otome compelled me to abandon imouto love (read: Yume) to rally behind onee-ranks. A tremendous feat considering tanuki leanings.

Feena Fam Earthlight (Brighter than dawning blue)
Yoakena obviously had more love for her lunar beauties than the earthly counterparts with Feena at the apex of this bishoujo hierarchy. Feena is the ONLY bishoujo who'd make me go berserk on merchandise I don't really need.

Houjouin Seika (Princess lover)
Celebrity model cum fashion designer, Seika chan would be THE trophy girlfriend except that she is MUCH more than that. Incredibly emphatic despite her mild tsundere condition, she'd made a WONDERFUL soulmate/life partner.

Jyuujyou Shion (Otome wa boku ni koishiteru)
Step aside Takako/Mariya and make way for the ONE and TRUE haremette for Mizuho. Can there even be ANY contest?

Katsura Hinagiku (Hayate no Gotoku!!)
With Hina chan's rendition of Cruel Angel Thesis fresh in my mind (just touched HnG!! ep 12 last weekend), there is no doubt about her standing as Ultimate idol-girlfriend on this list. Only Hontouni's eternal goddess Shirakawa Kotori marginally outranks her.

Lacus Kline (Gundam SEED)
Pink hair 15 yr old idol-songbird with matching pantsu What's not to love??

Miyabe Momiji (Wagaya no oinarisama)
Wagaya ep 13 is my MOST rewatched ep of the series. Momiji's concert performance was alluring, sensual and well.. for a lack of better description, simply hawt.

Natsume Maya (Tenjou Tenge)
I absolutely understand why men would give their ALL to battle for her. If I were 17 again, I would too.

Ogata Rina (White Album)
Didn't finish White album cos I found Touya to be lame, bland and blind. Hoping my love for Rina would grant me that courage to pick up again the series and survive it somehow. Lovely Rina deserves no less.

Sachikawa Eri (School Rumble)
No character designs amplifies hawtness like the twin-tailed blond tsunderes. Eri is love and it bleeds my heart dry to see her as an underdog in love.

Senjougahara Hitagi (Bakemonogatari)
It would appear that there are aberrant forces so powerful that even tanukis would forsake their deeply-rooted love of the lolicious. Yes, Senjougahara's out-of-this-world womanly charms is one such aberration.

Shirakawa Kotori (DCIF)
Words fail me. Watch DCIF part 1 (and I say again ONLY part 1) and be converted to Kotorism.

Suzumiya Akane (Kiminozo)
Zyl's 4koma says all.

Yamamoto Misaki (Hatsukoi Limited)
Nuff said.

Yuasa Hiromi (True Tears)
Yet another candidate who came very close to displacing Kotori as top Hontouni bishoujo. I'll never forget her eyes during Shinichiro's confession @ ep 13.

This list is inspired by Senjougahara and dedicated to all the bishoujo-enthusiasts for recognising the hard work/love that goes into crafting bishoujos - rendering not merely exterior beauty but also infusing a soul/character to match that loveliness.

    Seems like Nanaka got batted aside for Kotorism huh? Or it is more of a only-1-bishoujo-per-series deal? Da Capo characters simply offer too much goodness from the school idol perspective.

    Add Shiina Mitsuki from Akane-iro Somaru Saka. I’ve never seen such an energetic and fun-loving seitokaicho-idol. Her mahou-shoujo-esque insert song made it 300% more lawls.

    Regards White Album, I think Touya deserves as much defense as Takayuki – the other characters (Manager-san I’m staring at you) are seriously screwing with him too much. A person can only take so much before they start being stupid, epically stupid… (should probably rant elsewhere).

      Eh? Touya is a massive douche. I don’t think ANYONE at this point of the series can come up with a good enough explanation as to how he’s even remotely likeable. Which is odd, as women seem to keep wanting his electrolytes…

      Of course, it’s not like the rest of the female cast can be excused; I seriously doubt anyone in the series can be considered normal and emotionally stable!

        Well, sadly to say, I barely gotten to the end of White Album 1 (and certainly didn’t start 2). The direction they’re taking the drama was kind of creeping me out… probably shouldn’t have talked lol.

        But no, he was never likable IMO to start with. I just felt bad for how messed up his life was turning out to be…

        Nanaka loiters just outside of my top 15. Hoping she would follow the example of her grandma and grant us a dedicated OVA to showcase her loveliness.

        Glad you remember Shiina. Loved her loli-genki but can’t quite tag her as ‘hawt’ since she’s more lolicious; which is also very charming but a tad different from the babelicious which I’m looking for on this list :)

        Good idea. WA2 is a bit confusing week-to-week, but just as delicious. Also, there is nekkidness in WA2.

        I thought “ephebophilia” to be more appropriate but changed my mind when I realise that word encompassed a sexual dimension.

        Tanukis are very much misunderstood because the world doesn’t believe men can appreciate beauty in a sensual but non-sexual way. It’s tough but tanukis with their rigid code of honour manage somehow. Of course some tanukis are unable to resist the lure of the dark side and crosses the line of no return. (See Dark Stripey…) :P

    4. Jyuujyou Shion (Otome wa boku ni koishiteru) : She was the supreme girl of the series. Whenever she appeared, you can’t help keeping your eye on her as she will likely be the one who will dictate the scenes. And I heard that there isn’t a route for her….

    5. Katsura Hinagiku (Hayate no Gotoku!!) : She deserves being crowned 2009 ISML Champion.

    6. Lacus Kline (Gundam SEED) : Insufficient Data…

    7. Miyabe Momiji (Wagaya no oinarisama) : I prefer Kou on condition that she gets better at household chores.

    8. Natsume Maya (Tenjou Tenge) : Too much skin…

    9. Ogata Rina (White Album) : Sorry but the even she feels… lacking.

    10. Sachikawa Eri (School Rumble) : My wife and I say Yakumo

    11. Senjougahara Hitagi (Bakemonogatari) : Release your feelings. You know that you also want Sengoku Nadeko.

    12. Shirakawa Kotori (DCIF) : Actually I had higher opinion of her before IF 1st episode.

    13. Suzumiya Akane (Kiminozo) : Well, she was the most sane girl in the series.

    14. Yamamoto Misaki (Hatsukoi Limited) : Not bad

    15. Yuasa Hiromi (True Tears) : She is the personification of “Beauty in Moonlight( 月下美人] ) ”

    1. Takigawa Akane (Cross Game) : Words are not adequate. Just see the series.

    2. Isara Gunther (Valkyria Chronicle) : I am surprised that Stripey missed her.

    3. Isayama Yomi (Ga Rei – Zero ) : The phrase “Accept no Substitutes” can be applied for about a dozen different reasons.

    4. Amamiya Yuuko ( EF ) : Maetel Moe + Angel Love

    5. Shiho Matsuri ( SOLA ) : “Ame, Suki?” Probably Noto Mamiko’s best role before Kuronuma Sawako.

        If we are talking about figure as in character’s bodily figure, few can compare to the slender line of Isayama Yomi with her long sword.

        Do give Valkyria a shot if you like interesting characters, but be warned that its ending is sub-par.

    Stripey, if you are going for the Senjogahara template, I think you should definitely have a closer look at Sangou Shizuku from Kämpfer ;) … more devious and less inhibited (she has to be, due to the male lead)
