Ah, another one of my questions answered, initially raised by Kanata's seal (and graffiti sign off) but her inability to read the Japanese modern literature textbook she found.

A new challenger yet to appear

Well, it was a bit maudlin but I suppose I'm just being a grouch. There may be some courage to go on after the loss but there's also elements of sheer inertia, quiet desperation, numb duty and even the desire for revenge or retribution.

This, I had no quarrel with. The possibilities created by a spontaneous casual act of why-the-heck-not kindness rippling back with much greater and completely unexpected impact.

We've already had the flashback which hints that Rio's mom maybe the trumpeter who inspired Kanata in the first place so Rio may experience this for herself, reinforcing the hitsuzen of the apple brandy.

Another note of incongruity - Rio deliberately adopts loutish masculine behaviour, in defiance of her father, but she keeps her hair long - in tribute to her mom?

    You will know who it is that is Rio’s mom, but I’ll let you see for yourself. I am sure the revelation will make you quite pleased.

    You Make it sound like Rio and Macross F’s Alto have much in common, perhaps you are right about a great many things…

    I wish the US Military would let us have shorts as part of the uniform, alas it has yet to be. Still good to see that they have perfected the art of making their own booze where many unit have failed…

      The Brits and Aussies used to wear shorts back in the day, until they discovered mosquitoes, leeches and sandflies in our tropical jungle… Although I’d be perfectly fine with ladies wearing beach shorts or culottes as part of their garrison uniform…
