[Stripey] K-Books Trump Collection 2010 – Spades suit

Posted by

My path to financial ruin can be traced back to the Summer of 2007 when Zyl returned from Japan with the fable K-books trump collection. That box of concentrated bishoujo goodness subsequently ignited a frenzied love for 2D artwork that further led to a crazed acquisition of artbooks.

3 years later, K-books releases a new deck as if to rejuvenate our love for 2D art (not that there was any sign of a flagging interest actually). And an ambassador of bishoujo love, it is both my privilege and pleasure to share the Spade suit for the K-books trump collection 2010.

My favourites in this suit include

1. Ace of Spade (Ryouka)

2. Five spades (Asukabe Akira)

3. Queen of Spades (Kantoku)

I'm especially intrigued by Ryouka's frilly work given my penchant for bishoujos in lace/ribbons. Asukabe sensei needs to bless the world with an illustration collection too. His soft rendering of bishoujo is clearly in the realm of the divine.

Figures, artbooks pages updated ~ The passion flickers onz

Posted by

Credits: Goto-PWhat do you do if you wanted to show off all your CURRENT girlfriends to your wife without pulling a 'Nice boat'? Why you update your Figures page! Sadly she wasn't as impressed with the amount invested. It doesn't help that figure prices have rose from 4200 yen per piece in 2006 to the average of 8000 yen today. Anyhow I digress. Beside showing off my plastic girlfriends, this update also aims to achieve the following:

1. Points folks to the location of my now-very-obscure Figure page.

2. Assures fellow PVC hobbyists that my plastic passion still burns even though numerous PVC giants from my blogging era have already betrayed the love graduated from the hobby.

3. To soothe the recent pain of spending close to S$700 on Volks Fate & Tinkle figures.

4. To announce our spanking new Artbooks page *confetti*

5. To put up Goto-P's beautiful illustration of the seifuku-bishoujo.

[Artbook] Custom-made girl (Miyama Zero Gashuu)

Posted by

It is such a shame that this artbook wouldn't be found at our local Kinokuniya. And understandably so since NSFW illustrations account for up to 40% of the content.

This post aims to bring greater awareness to Miyama Zero sensei's art and to boost "Custom-made girl" sales or better still spark off a lobby for a greater relaxation of import regulation with regards to loli-porn 2D art. (In many countries, I wouldn't need to be agonising over bringing in this and this from Amazon Japan). This post is also partly inspired by Anya's Orange kun illustration in the Code Geass artbook.

A excellent review of the publication can be found at Icie's, so I'd rather not embarrass myself and skip to my badly taken pictures instead. (Incidentally the entire digital collection can be found here - NSFW.)

[Artbook] Code Geass Heroine Tribute

Posted by

Let's face it. The best part about Code Geass R2 was the bishoujo cast. (I wouldn't make the same claim about Season 1 which I enjoyed a lot more.) Anya, Tianzi and the expanded role of Kaguya brought much joy to a certain soon to be arrested not to be named Zaku - his main consolation when the story bordered on ridiculous (Oooh, the Marianne bits - got to have some of what the SUNRISE folks were smoking.) Anyhow, here's THE definitive Code Geass bishoujo artbook that every right thinking CG fan should hug to sleep.

The artbook is mainly 2 divided into 2 segments. First the mundane. About 20 pages of character art complete with their various outfits in the anime. There's even 2 pages dedicated to the mecha appearing in the show.

Bound in hardcover thick enough to withstand a nuclear blast and paper quality able to deflect bullets, this 256 page ULTIMATE Yoakena artbook THE ONE TO RULE all eroge visual guidebook-wannabes. I'll let the badly taken pictures do the incoherent babbling.

My humble artbook collection

Posted by

After approximately 2 years and S$2000, I'm proud (though very broke) to present my little stash of 33 artbooks. 2008 and 2009 saw me going on a frenzy to acquire my favourite artists work. Things got a LOT worst when I discovered Yahoo Japan Auctions and realised that doujins are within tanuki grasp. Not a good revelation at all.

10 Tinkle outfits I'd like to buy

Posted by

Tinkle really needs to start her own label. Byakuya Chakai has convinced me that Tinkle is not only an accomplished artist but also a fashion genius. If only her designs could be manufactured into 3D apparel, I'd buy up her entire range even if it meant selling off a good friend's gyro-stabilisers (I know, the secondary market for Zaku parts is also in the slumps now).

Nonetheless, I hope some billionaire otaku would chance on this lil post in the vast interwebs and be INSPIRED to start a fashion empire built on Tinkle designs.

Anyhow, here's 10 Tinkle outfits I'd love to own (I emphasize - own, not wear)

S$340 Hontouni economic stimulus package ~ Tinkle, Saber, MEGAMI saves Japan

Posted by

I don't like to brag but I'm pretty sure my injection of S$400 into the Japanese economy (via artbook purchase) over last weekend, kept the 2nd biggest economy in the world from sinking into a full-blown financial meltdown. The Japanese now has Tinkle, MEGAMI and Saber to thank for the bailout.

Here's the breakdown of the rescue package -

Items 1-2 - Byakuya Chakai ~ Tinkle Illustration collection 2: S$260

Instead of electronic goods, Japan should export the one unique product that is not manufacturable elsewhere - Moe. It doesn't have to be eroge. Tinkle's benign artwork of scantily clad young girls lolita fashion is a fine example of how Moe could be exported WORLDWIDE to lift Japan out of deep recession.

Item 3 - Fate/Stay night ~ Saber Portraits: S$38

The Pound took a beating from the Yen with the debut of this artbook as the enterprising Japanese (14 illustrators to be exact) emasculated the once fable King of Avalon to become a maid, a Japanese high school girl, a bride and a glutton. Great artwork - The only best Saber picture collection there is.

Item 4 - Super MEGAMI Deluxe: S$38

Gakken took more than a page out of MacDonald's accounts to introduce their very own super-sized MEGAMI Deluxe. Like the upsized meal, the Super MEGAMI Deluxe triples your chances of getting heart-attack though not from cholesterol but moe-overload. More than 4 times thicker than the regular MEGAMI deluxe the super edition is available for only 1.5 times its price. A bargain no self-respecting 2D investor would miss out on.

And that's that for the artbook induced stimulus. Hoping the PVC market picks up too. Been dying to find an excuse to pump in more cash in the figure sector but the offerings have been lacklustered of late. (I blame figma and nendroid for the heretical development in the current PVC world.)

Byakuya Chakai – The ‘cheapest’ artbook I’ve ever bought

Posted by

If there was only ONE artbook you can have in your entire life, it had better be Tinkle's Byakuya Chakai since nothing else comes close, not even Tinkle's own previous illustration collection.

Shipping woes – Bringing home the YJA trophies

Posted by

One of the reasons why I love my country, beside the food and free internet, is the availability of Japanese 2D merchandise. KKnM/Kinokuniya easily meets 2/3 of my 2D needs. With their books/figures selling close to the Japanese retail price (with of membership discounts of course), I've always been oblivious to the pain of shipping. It was only my relatively recent foray into online shopping that this thorn has really dug into my flesh.

First, there was the not-so-brilliant attempt at buying Eji-Komatsu's artbook from Amazon JP late last year. The botched purchase caused me 2 shipments of stuff I could have also gotten from Kino (shipping ~ S$70) and no artbook. (Amazon JP conveniently reported they didn't have the book in stock AFTER shipping all the stuff I added into the shopping cart just to bring the shipping cost down.) Next was a Nendroid purchase (for a friend), also from Amazon JP. The shipping cost was 3/4 of the item itself. (Even though I'm not paying for it, I feel his pain.) Since then, I thank Haruhi daily that while Singapore may not be Akiba, the availability and cost of 2D products are rivaled by few places on Earth. (Probably only Taiwan and Hong Kong). Thus, it also baffles me greatly why many local collectors still choose the online avenue when shipping costs are so hard-hitting and ordering online has soo much inconveniences/restrictions.
