Asura Cryin’ – Not enough lolis

While that is my short answer for feeling a little underwhelmed 4 episodes into Season 1, it is but merely a small bit of the whole truth. Having picked up the series in part due to an enlightening exchange between Zyl and an esteemed fellow 2D fan (whom I shall honorify as Ray-chin for now :P ) on AC, I can only assume it gets better after ep 4 or has a stronger run during Season 2.

No no, no no no no, no no no no, no no theres no limit!

I've finally gotten round to watching Eps 10-13 of Asura Cryin' and I pronounce myself well pleased with these 13 episodes and am very much looking forward to the next season. I suspect that my mileage on this series was quite good because I watched it in arcs / chunks rather than episode by episode, week by week.

Knowing that there's going to be a second season also made me more forgiving of the gaps, of what we haven't been told yet, of unresolved plot lines and unfinished business thusfar. And watching it several episodes at a time, even the point of fillerish episodes became much clearer.

My spoiler-lite summary of the series follows:

Twin sister's Cryin' identity crisis in the Yuri Triangle

I'm still megas confused about whether Shuri is really Shuri or Yukari. Some viewers might think that it's pretty clear; I will attempt to show that it is not. Others might mark down the show due to their confusion; I think the mystery is an enjoyable one. Some may not care either way; I think it is an important development for the plot and two major supporting characters.

Some of my tl;dr thoughts on the twins identity conundrum as I watched (and rewatched) Episodes 6 and 7:

Shuri arc stabilizes Asura Cryin'

I was very much relieved to read that Aroduc approved, overall, of the past three episodes of Asura Cryin' :

Ep 4 - As surreal as much of this episode was, this show is actually turning out so much better than the first two episodes indicated.

Ep 5 - Not as good as the last couple, but still worlds beyond the first two episodes.

Ep 6 - A great episode marred only a little bit by somewhat anticlimatic ending, along with one of the more bizarre developments, even for this series.

After a great third episode, there was always the risk that things could have slipped back into the style of the first two episodes which put off quite a few potential viewers. But, despite a few niggles, I'm well pleased with the developments on several fronts including Shuri's back story, the introduction of two other competing camps with their own Asura Machina as well as Tomo x Misao x Kanade dynamics.

What a turnaround it's been for Asura Cryin' - I checked out the first two eps, on Xellos-_^'s suggestion, for Tanaka Rie goodness and was quite ambivalent about it; miko x giant mecha x world destruction mix (or what IKnight called a meze) has already been done by Kannazuki no Miko, ya know? And the latter had nonsense doramaz yuri to boot.
