FMP! The Second Raid 03-04

Have been tardy with watching this because I knew, via Omni, that Ep 3 was a cliffhanger and there's only so much cliffhanging I can take while followning GSD. And Ep 3-4 is one story arc so it would still be quite neat to look at them with one pass. Also have been marathoning my Cardcaptor Sakura DVDs because I've been feeling so lousy lately even the alcohol isn't helping anymore. Ah, CCS *is* the perfect antidote to angst.
The Mithril team goes on a rescue mission that turns into trap in an old Chinese tunnel complex. I rather liked the idea of the politics of a North vs South China because historically it's happened before (e.g. latter Song Dynasty) and because North and South China are really quite different places in terms of geography, climate, language (dialects), food and the temperament of the people. Due to the elements of surprise and treachery, all looks lost but due to strong teamwork between ops and HQ, they turn the tables on their opponents.

The really bad guys reveal themselves to the bad guys and show why they are really bad. Mithril higher management briefs the foot soldiers. Someone is spying on Chidori. Sousuke over-reacts. Chidori stomps on him. (covers face) Fairly harmless perpetrator is dealt with. Oh wait, someone really is spying on Chidori. ~ cue ominous music ~
FMP! The Second Raid 01

I actually was going to just wait and see how The Second Raid season of Full Metal Panic! shaped up first, partly out of my intense dislike for Chidori Kaname. But with the promise of regular doses of yuri from the second episode onwards, I dived in faster than you can whisper "Kiyohime..."
Overall, a good episode with enough screentime for all of the returning cast especially the Mithril Arm Slave pilots and the senior crew of the Tuatha de Danaan. Small quibble about Anime Keep's sub which had Mardukas as "Lieutenant Commander" when I think "fuchou" means "Vice Captain" and demoting Andrei Kalinin to "Lieutenant" from Major (shousa). If you want a real review I suggest Omni's entry. I'm just going to talk a bit about my two favourite anime ladies in this series, Teletha "Tessa" Testarossa and Melissa Mao.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien Ep 1: Springtime of love again. This first ep starts off well. Already I can identify so much with the main characters just after 1 ep. There's some flip flopping in the choices the characters make but the motivations behind them are realistic, well justified and deep. Indeed, that was a lot of character development compressed in 1 ep. The liaisons are suitably complex and the characters have already displayed various dimensions of their psyche. There was much details and the subtle in the anime greatly enriched the profile of each characters beyond what was normally achieveable in 20min. Impressive indeed. Looking forward to the next ep.
