Ten anime lolis I would have married

Posted by

By Zyl….. 's comrade-in-anime. My inaugural post on Hontou ni would also be an incriminating one. With the lines demarcating tanuki and Zaku blurred, the Mounties would surely kick down the wrong door now. The countdown to a shima-shima Zaku has finally begun. (In fact the very astute in the blogsphere have already picked up the some vibes.) Indeed what better to mark the union of blogs with a post on marriage. To stay relevant to the times, here’s dedicating this post to the fabulously lolicious cast of Pandora Hearts. Yes, one woman’s shota is another man’s loli.

In no order of martial preference,

Ten sibling rivalries – Stripey picks sides

Posted by

Tenjou Tenge is the latest of anime series to join the ranks of my growing DVD stash. Bulldozing through the show, I'm once again held enthralled by the babelicious Maya and fully support Souichirou's choice over her sister Aya. In fact my love for Maya exceeds Aya by so much that I'm afraid it might upset my imouto-saturated psyche. I had initially blamed Zyl for tainting my 2D love with oneenism (not to be confused with onanism which is the love for your broth.. erm never mind.) until I sat down and took stock of the side I took with anime sibling rivalries. It's a sobering exercise indeed.

Here's 10 anime siblings vying for (or romantically linked to) the male protagonist and my very biased choice of the superior sibling.

Ten bishoujos I don’t want to be trapped in a gym shed with

Posted by

Dark Stripey would probably have another title for this post but for the fiercely chivalrous/honourable tanuki race, getting trapped in a gym shed with the hottest girls in animedom (in a bloomer no less) could still pose a moral dilemma. (Hey we're still only animals mammals!) Of course some 2D beauties could punch through our knightly facade code of conduct a lot easier than others. Yes, this is a long overdue post in tribute to my favourite episode in Clannad.

Here's 10 bishoujos (complete with 'come-on' vibes) that even the staunchest tanuki wouldn't want to be found in potentially compromising situations with.

So many worthy bishoujos, so few OVAs

Posted by

Having just seen the most excellent Tomoyo centric Clannad OVA (ep 24) and (less recently) D.C.IF, I'm of the opinion that the world needs MOAR of such OVAs for the worthy beauties who got shafted in their original TV series. It needn't be an alternate retelling that results her 'victory' (as the Tomoyo and Kotori OVAs were.) A character-centric OVA fully dedicated to flaunting the charms of these bishoujos would have sufficed. For example, KyoAni's Tessa OVA is a testament that anime can be produced with deep unadulterated character love.

And so here's a list of worthy bishoujos who deserve their own OVAs and hoping to the respective studios do finally justice to these downtrodden heroines via an OVA or two.

Choice harems, Stripey's picks

Posted by

White Album has clinched the much coveted attribute of 'Choice Harem' on The Tanuki's anime list. This happens when the Striped One deems 3 or more girls within the harem setup to be worthy of pursue. WA was elevated to such an exalted position via the combined charms of Rina, Yuki and Mana. And so, this is my excuse to pimp the other 'Choice Harems' on my list with my personal pick of the choicest haremette. The list packs a few surprises since tanuki-favourites like Da Capo and Kiminozo didn't make the cut due to lack of worthy bishoujos. Here presenting my choice harems (worthy haremettes in brackets).

How popular are your favourite anime bishoujos?

Posted by

It appears that I'm the only fan of Iokawa Karada, at least according to Myanimelist. Ioka-who? I don't blame you. Served without fanservice and mecha, Asatte no houkou had only good drama, pseudo-lolis and strong characterisation to draw viewers. In other words, it wasn't as popular as it could have been in another genre. Still there's poor justifications why Karada should get almost no love since to this tanuki, she was the soul of an excellent production. And that got me thinking -

How popular are the rest of my favourite 2D bishoujos?

Though the sampling size may be small and the demography biased, I pulled out numbers from the only place I knew have such trifling figures - Myanimelist. Here's a list of my favourite bishoujos cross-referenced with their MAL popularity.

If I were a harem lead… – Dark Stripey's 5 fantasies

Posted by

Condemnation, derision and contempt are some just common currencies when trading words on harem leads. While many would pen volumes of praise and poetry for their haremettes, most would rather swallow their pencils than to put in a good word for harem leads. But being a harem lead is not easy (no I don't speak from experience XD). Instead of thoughtlessly condemning these poor sods, why not put yourself in their shoes so that your subsequently judgment can be much more severe and well-thought out you can feel their pain and thank the anime gods that you don't inherit the cruel destiny of trampling beautiful shoujo hearts?

Sisters, sisters, sisters! ~ Bishoujos of Fall

Posted by

I used to be a siscon purist. Sister complex was all about imouto moe. It has to be the younger sister - oniichan-crooning, and moelolicious, preferably with short twin-tails. All was well with the fetish til this season. Sister complex took new dimensions, no thanks to the lovely Fall 'sisters'.

Behold! 6 lovely sister-bishoujos to bring that siscon out of every anime fan.

Sunohara Mei (Clannad) - Not a siscon yet? Sign up with Clannad ep 3 for immediate conversion! Full-fledged siscon by the time Mei finishes her crepe or your money back!!

Nagase Minato (Akane-iro ni somaru saka) - The Kotori-esque imouto. It breaks me heart to see the lovely lass in substandard series.

Isayama Yomi (Ga-Rei) - Leaving Stripey land for Zyl turf now. "You really like yuri don't you?" so saith my wife when she caught me watching GR~Z ep 4 for the X time. Yuri + Yomi = WIN.

Isayama Mei (Ga-Rei) - Raging hot onee blood runs in their family huh? Mei is testimony that you don't have to be loli to be a light haired beauty.

Zange (Kannagi) - I have no doubt most of Zange's confessors are confessing their sinful thoughts about her. And I thought my job was tough.

Index (To aru majutsu no index) - Alright I confess. I adore Index not because she's a sister but because she's moeliciously loli loliciously moe. Did I just Imagine Breaker my Zettai Siscon?

Thanks to Fall anime, I've expanded my fetish beyond the traditional boundaries of mere imoutos. (Gasp! Did I say mere imoutos?) Now to thoroughly enjoy the FULL course that siscon has to offer.

Noteworthy anime OSTs – 10 personal picks

Posted by

A common thread runs through my favourite anime scenes - Great music. I remember choking up in Asatte no Houkou ep 8 as "Kasa" hit a crescendo during a very poignant moment; cheering on Sasuke as he battled Orochimaru in ep 29 against the high tension flute notes of the Naruto soundtrack and inhaling deeply the fragrance of death as the opening notes of "Canta per me" wafts into the scenes of Noir. Anime music is a key ingredient in my enjoyment of anime. Of course not every series has the mettle to bear a powerful soundtrack. When the visual fail to match the greatness of the score, an interesting phenomenon known as 'overscored' occurs and that's what we see in Madlax.

Fortunately none of the soundtracks I'm pimping today are overscored products (I hope). I've listed 10 OSTs of what I deemed to be not only superb standalone musical compositions but accompaniments that bring out the very character of the shows, making them the excellent productions that they are (well most of them anyway).

Here's my top 10 OSTs (and boy was it hard choosing from 30 favourites)

The lovably stupid – Kou classed bishoujos

Posted by

Affectionately coined by Kabitzin to describe Saber's charm (Fate/Stay night), it dawned on me lately that "the lovably stupid" describes not-so-uncommon a class of anime bishoujos - one that uses a sublter form of moe to entice tanukis. Though not cerebrally challenged (as the title suggests), the "lovably stupid" tend to be socially inept, often due to their unique upbringing/circumstances or a naive single-mindedness on their mission at hand. Yet it's this charming mix of seriousness and silliness that makes them so endearing. Wagaya fans would know who this list is dedicated to. In honour of favouritest miko, Kou, here's a tribute to the 'lovably stupid".
