Kudos to the writers for weaving such a convincing and piercing dialogue that had me very nearly believing Tomo to be the masked Adept. The accusations hurled at Mafuyu weren't quite your run-of-the-mill teenage rows on anime forums. Every poisoned word drew blood from the vital points of the Mafuyu/Tomo relationship. And even the masquerade was ultimately dismantled, Mafuyu should search deeply for any vestiges of truth in Ayana's utterances. To be honest, I had wished Tomo WAS the masked villain. That would have been most intriguing to the plot. Well, given that we'll be served with a most lolicious goth-loli (complete with blond twin-tails!!!!) antagonist in the next episode, my affiliations with related bishoujo clubs forbid me to complain.
