Yuri Eroge “Hanabira”

[hanabira1.jpg - images removed due to hotlinking]

So what's the yuri anime scene going to be like after Strawberry Panic and Simoun? Based on this invaluable Airborne Early Warning post by Omni, Otome wa Boku ni Koi Shiteru looks like a possible candidate - except for the existential problem of the protagonist actually being a guy. While an argument can be made at the metaphysical level for this to be considered yuri (the girls think he's a she), reality and something else will rear its head when the girls urm try to get into his panties.

Further down the horizon, StoPani might have paved the way for more imitators. We might see the yuri eroge Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke wo (To Kiss That Flower Petal) by the doujin game circle, Fuguriya, as a mainstream anime in the future. But it's early days as the download version of the game was only release this month and the packet edition goes out in October.

"I also understand Rin-chan's situation. But on that, I won't retreat."

After Rin presses her on the recent changes in her behaviour, Asa confesses that she likes Rin. He does not reject her but with the pain and lingering emptiness of his own past still weighing on him, he can't give her a clear answer. Rin also learns more about Primula's origins but, in the context of this thread, is to give him some basic information so that later information about Ama and Asa will make sense to Rin.

As usual, any comments and notes on errors and omissions are most welcome!

SHUFFLE! Game – Asa thread 09/7-16/7

A major milestone in Rin and Asa's relationship as they share painful childhood secrets. And Asa kisses Rin (the image above corresponds with that scene in the game). Meanwhile Kareha continues to play cheerleader to their relationship and there is a hilarous scene when Ama is introduced to the rest of the gang.

I have had significant difficulties with this part. As the details are rather important to understanding the story, I couldn't use my usual style of skimming on the top and reporting the gist. Translation was particularly difficult when pronouns were not used and sentences are constructed somewhat in reverse. Any comments on errors and omissions will be greatly appreciated.

1024 x 768 | 1280 x 800 | 1600 x 1200

Tsuchimi Rin and Shigure Asa's courtship proceeds along. Slowly in game time as there is a lot of dialogue and clicking - just brief notes on the non-Asa dialogue. But actually it's just over three weeks. All the important game choices are made in this period but nothing tangible is materialises. Yet but the relationship is becoming somewhat less tentative as both sides put out feelers towards the other. We also get to see a very different side of Asa - awkward and embarrassed that her desire for Rin is becoming so strong but being unable to really hide it - to the point that Rin finds her behaviour, on occasions, unusual.

Kareha, in my opinion, is a very important catalyst as she communicates a lot of Asa's thoughts to Rin which Asa would otherwise be too shy to tell Rin directly. Asa is also unable to shut Kareha up and Kareha, being her best friend, has credibility so this helps to significantly erode the Blurness Barrier of Rin.

Usual caveat about my crappy translation. I tried my best to do a faithful translation but Rin and Asa's speech is quite colloquial while I had the opposite problem with Kareha's polite keigo. And above is my current wallpaper, based on work from the SHUFFLE! artbook.

SHUFFLE! Game – Asa thread 13-20/6

Introductory note. The dynamics in the game are very different from the anime because a decision is made by the player for Rin very early on; the game prompts the player to choose on 16/6 (Shia / Nerine / Kaede / Others) which is the second time such a prompt appears.

The anime, in contrast, is much less focused which results in the “complicit harem” situation. In contrast, the “involuntary harem” situation is where although the guy loves only one girl and is very clear about it, the other girls chase after him anyway.

In the game, once Rin’s choice of girlfriend is decided, the other girls rapidly recede into the background. As such, the back stories of the other girls will not be revealed much if at all and I suppose finding out those and the conquest of the H-scenes are the incentives to play and successfully complete the other threads.

The anime has to resolve the tension of dealing with each girl’s backstory while moving Rin towards a decisive end. Well, at least I feel it should be a decisive end. One of those wishy-washy prolonging-the-status-quo cop-out endings will ruin the series for me.

My Japanese is rudimentary so inevitably the translation of the game play will need more work. Any input on errors and omissions will be greatly appreciated!
